What do you mean by coordinative abilities?
Coordiantive abilities are those abilities of an individual, which enable
the individual to do various related activities properly as well as
efficiently.

What are specific sports programmes?


Specific sports programmes are such programmes of sports, which are
not usually related to competitions. These programmes have various
objectives such as creating awareness amongst people regarding issues
such as unity, health, diseases, etc.

What is physical environment?


Physical environment of sports includes natural and artificial or manmade environments, which further consist of playgrounds, courts,
gyms, climate, weather, sports equipments, etc.

Explain the correct posture of standing.


In the standing position, both the heels of the feet should meet each
other. The toes of the feet should be 3 4 apart. The whole body
should be erect, straight knees, chin inside, chest forward, belly
backward and pressed inside with equal body weight on both feet.

What do you mean by conservation of environment?


Environment is the aggregate of the external forces, influences and
conditions, which affect life, nature, behaviour, growth, development
and maturation of living organisms.

Define balanced diet.


A diet that consists of all essential food constituents protein,
carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals and water in correct

proportion is called balanced diet.

What is seeding?
In the seeding method, the strong teams are selected to keep them at
appropriate place in the fixture. It is a method that avoids matches
between two good teams in early rounds.

What are postural deformities?


Postural deformities are those deformities that prevent a person for
acquiring a correct posture while sitting, standing, walking and lying.

How an individual is benefited with physical fitness and wellness?
(i)
Physical fitness is necessary for reducing the risk of heart and
lung diseases.
(ii)

Physically fit individuals tend to have lower resting blood


pressure.

Discuss the causes of knock knees and bow-legs.


(i)
Knock-knees are generally caused by lack of balanced diet
especially vitamin D. It may also be due to rickets. Chronic
illness, obesity, flat foot and carrying heavy weight in early age
may be a cause of knock knees.
(ii)

The main cause of bow legs is the deficiency of calcium and


phosphorous in bones. Bow legs may also be caused due to
overweight, deficiency of vitamin D or even when babies are
forced to walk at a very early age.

Suggest physical activities as corrective measures for flat foot and


lordosis.
Flat foot:
(i)

Walking on heels, on inner and outer side of feet and on toes;

(ii)

To perform up and down the heels;

(iii)

Jumping on toes for some time;

(iv)

To skip rope

To perform Vajrasana, the yogic asana.

Lordosis:

There are four types of tournaments:
(i)

Knock-out tournament: In this type, a team once defeated is


knocked out. Examples are lawn tennis tournaments like
Wimbledon, US Open, etc.

(ii)

League or Round Robin tournament: In this type, every team

plays with every other team once if it is a single league


tournament and twice if it is a double league tournament.
Intramural competitions are often organised on a league basis.
(iii)

Combination tournament: Combination tournaments are a


mixture of league and knock-out tournaments. Here, the
preliminary rounds are on a league basis while later rounds are
on a knock-out basis. Example: World Cup cricket.

(iv)

Challenge tournament: A challenge tournament is when an


individual challenges another individual for the championship.
For example, world championship in boxing, chess, etc.

Rhythmic exercises are performed with rhythm. These exercises
develop fitness.

Minerals can be classified into macro and micro nutrients.

The macro nutrients for the human body are calcium,


phosphorous, sodium, chlorine, magnesium, potassium and
sulphur. The body needs about 0.1 gram of each per day.

(iii)

The micro nutrients are the minerals required in lesser quantity


(0.01 gram per day). These include copper, iron, zinc, cobalt,
chromium, selenium, iodine and fluoride.

(i)
A well balanced is essential to ensure good performance.
(ii)

Some studies indicate that diet can improve sports performance


whereas some studies did not observe any significant effect of
diet on sports performance.

(iii)

A well balanced diet may not guarantee in sports. However, an


unbalanced diet adversely affects sports performance.

Adventure sports are those sports, which have activities
perceived as having high level of inherent danger.

These activities involve speed, height, a high level of physical

The aim of adventure sports are:


a. To let every individual experience the joy and thrill of the
sport.

b. To develop in the individual qualities such as courage,


fearlessness, confidence, etc.
c. To inculcate in the individual attitudes such as risk-taking,
sportsmanship, etc.
d. It also promotes tourism.

Explain climatic conditions and sports facilities to improve sports


environment.
Climatic conditions:
(i)

Generally, sports are conducted under a wide range of climatic


conditions, which often leads to sports injuries and sometimes
even death.

(ii)

Adequate precautions must be taken in extreme climatic


conditions, especially heat. Enough fluids should be consumed,
tournament timings can be in early mornings or late evenings,
light clothes may be worn, etc.

Sport facilities:
(i)

All sport facilities must be maintained and frequently inspected


for the safety of the participants.

(ii)

Safety fences, batting cages, location of water sanitation facilities

and emergency medical services should be available.


(iii)

Indoor facilities should have appropriate lighting and safe


playing surfaces. Proper paddings on walls near the poles of
basketball should be done.

(i)
Leadership is the ability to build up confidence and the zeal
among people and to create an urge in them towards some
common goal.
(ii)

In physical education, various opportunities for developing


leadership qualities arise. These include:
a. Making decisions;
b. Firm determination;
c. Cooperation;
d. Emotionally balanced;
e. Loyalty, etc.

What are the renewable and non-renewable natural resources?


Discuss about the proper use of natural resources in detail.
(i)
Renewable resources are those resources that can be replenished
naturally. They can never be destroyed by overuse.
(ii)

Non-renewable resources are those resources which cannot be


renewed naturally in a reasonable amount of time.

(iii)

Natural resources should be properly used with due concern on


the impact it will have on the environment.

(iv)

Emphasis should be placed on the three Rs of use of natural


resources: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

(v)

Non-renewable resources should be optimally used for


sustainable development.

Explain the pitfall of dieting.


(i)
Now-a-days, people, in order to lose weight very fast start dieting
without proper planning.
(ii)

However, unplanned dieting can lead to serious problems like:


a. It impairs various body organs;
b. It leads to serious health problems;
c. It generates stress and anxiety;
d. It causes exhaustion;
e. It causes weakness.

Explain the committees for organising sports events.


(i)
Various committees are formed for the systematic and smooth
conduct of competitions/tournaments.
(ii)

Generally, there is a committee of management, which usually


consists of one representative from each institution concerned.

(iii)

This committee forms various committees and assigns various


types of work among them.

(iv)

The General Committee is headed by an Administrative Director


under whom an Executive Committee performs its duties.
Organising Committee for games/sports events work under the
Executive Committee.

(v)

Various committees are formed under the Organising Committee.


Examples are Committee for Publicity, Transport Committee,
Boarding and Lodging Committee, Grounds and Equipment
Committee, etc.
