Wentz 1

Animals have been hunted to extinction and classified as endangered.

However, hunting of such animals brings in hefty income and negative
effects for countries that allow hunting.

Hunting in Africa has become a major source of income for countries

that offer trophy animals. Elephant and rhino hunting are among a few of the
pricier excursions costing $10,000-$36,000 for a 10-day trip. Roughly 9,000
trophy hunters travel to South Africa annually. 90% of the 9,000 come from
the United States to hunt on Wildlife conservations. In 2012, foreign hunters
spent around $115 million in South Africa alone. Many frown upon the
hunting of big game and the effects that carry with it but it is a way of means
for some African countries. (Parker 1)
Some argue that hunting animals is just wrong. We go around bating
and trapping them just to kill them for fun. Animals shouldnt have to live
their life in fear of hunters and poachers who tend to slaughter them. People
see hunting as barbaric and cruel. In Kenya they outlawed hunting in 1977.
In order to hunt animals we need to take steps to ensure their well-being like
providing untouched land for them to live and populate over the years.
Hunting should also be carried out in an orderly fashion and outlaw traps and
certain weapons like assault rifles. (Arguments For and Against Hunting 1)

Endangered animals arent only being killed for fun, but also for means
of food. China has had a growing problem with their people eating
endangered and rare animals. To prevent
Wentz 2
this from happening, China will jail anyone who eat rare animals for a
minimum of 10 years. China feels that this problem has increased because
they themselves are becoming wealthier and people want to be a part of a
social cache. People who can afford to eat these rare animals must pay
thousands of Yuan. The Panda, Golden Monkey, Asian Black Bear, and
Pangolins are just a few who are threatened by hunting and consumption.
The cause of the hunting comes from the buyer who has a high demand for
the animals. The Chinese Legislative Affairs Commission stated that anyone
knowingly buying any wild animals killed by illegal hunting will be jailed for 3
years. (China to Outlaw Eating of Protected Animal Species 1)
The encouragement of proper hunting spirit, a proper love of sport,
instead of being incompatible with a love of nature and wild things, offers the
best guaranty for their preservation. (Teddy Roosevelt). This quote deals
with the touchy subject of animal rights and how a true sportsman should
carry himself. It may be hard to believe but outdoor sportsmen fund almost
all reserved land for society to enjoy. The funds come from license fees and
federal excise taxes. Without this funding we would not have public land for
people to walk their dogs, ride bikes, or bird watch. Conservationists argue

and fight hunters but a poll taken by Roper and Starch said 85% of
Americans feel that hunting has a legitimate place in modern society and
62% agreed that hunters are the worlds leading conservationists. Hunters
who follow regulations provide a good service overall to help keep animal
populations at a safe level without endangering them. (Amrhein 1)

The King of the Jungle, the African Lion has mysteriously disappeared
from the Sahara desert. Cheetahs and gazelles are also disappearing;
scientists are calling this a catastrophic collapse of wildlife populations.
Naturalists are extremely concerned because they have seen a few animals
become extinct in the Sahara. The Bubal Hartebeest, Scimitar Horned Oryx,
and the African Wild Dog are no longer around the Sahara desert. The main
cause of the disappearance comes from habitat loss and hunting. (Sahara

Not all mass hunting of a species is endangering. The deer is known
across America as the most common game to hunt. Hunting is a safe and
effective form to manage the deer population as a whole and prevent
overpopulation. Since deer have no natural predators remaining in the areas
they live, hunters preform the task that a wolf or cougar would do and in turn
keeps the population in check. By safely hunting deer we get to protect our
crops that deer tend to be attracted to during times of search for food. (Lane

Bottlenose dolphins and Pilot whales are the primary target for the
Japanese during their hunting season. Japan has an annual quota of 20,000
dolphins which brings in a lot of money. The thick blubbery meat on a dolphin
can go for 50,000 yen but most aquariums are willing to pay 90,000 yen. The
issue with dolphin and whale hunting is it is seen as cruel. Fisherman bang
metal poles together to confuse a dolphins hypersensitive sonar and drive
them into coves sealed off by nets. The following morning they are dragged
into secluded inlets

and slaughtered. The dolphin and whale hunting business needs to be more
strongly regulated and outlaw such hunting techniques. (Dolphin Slaughter

Online Hunting has caused a huge stir for animal rights groups. John
Lockwood is the man behind such madness. He runs a website called LiveShot.com and it is operated in San Antonio, Texas. The website allows
anyone with internet access and a mouse to and hunt and target shoot by
remote control technology. Many have stepped out and expressed their
opinion including Texas State Rep. Todd Smith. He has every intention of
making online hunting and says I dont believe we should be able to kill

Gods creatures with the click of a mouse. (Smith) He has even gone as far
as introducing legislation to ban remote control hunting. The only
requirements to use Live-Shot.com are a Texas hunting license which is
obtainable over the internet. The cost to hunt costs $300 for 2 hours and $75
for an additional hour. Customers must also pay $14.95 and $5.95 for every
10 rounds fired. Many see hunting as a tradition and that is has been
horribly tarnished by online hunting. (Root 1)
Hunting is a human right. It is our responsibility to maintain regulations
and ethical treatment towards animals we hunt. Animals are a part of so
much more; they keep the Earth spinning and provide food to billions.
Humans must not abuse the riches and incentives that come with hunting
and be more worried about the aftermath of hunting animals for sport.
Hunting should be allowed across the globe but only in a strictly enforced list
of rules and regulations that come with heavy punishment if broken.
