Fine Arts in Education

Minimum of 128 credit hours to earn a BA degree. An 18-hour area of
concentration for middle school endorsement comprised of general
education courses as well as additional courses in a content area chosen.
The content area should be one that is taught in a middle school (Science).
2. Student Teaching What did you learn about options for student teaching
at your chosen college/university?
125 hours of field work will give vital experience in a wide variety of
teaching environments, both public and private schools, to learn how to
modify teaching styles for different students, cultures and environments, and
be prepared to effectively teach any student.

2. Which content test will you need to take?
Science: Chemistry (106), Science: Earth and Space Science (108),
Science: Environmental Science (112), Science: Physics (116).
3. Will you have to complete the edTPA?
Yes.
4. What did you learn about the edTPA?
Teacher candidates must submit a portfolio of field experience; a video,
student work, lesson plans. The edTPA was designed to measure the
knowledge and skills candidates need to begin their careers.
5. What is the APT test?

The APT tests are designed to assess a teaching candidate's


instructional/ educational knowledge; the tests are based on current
expectations for future teachers in Illinois.

6. How do you apply for licensure?


Obtain proof of an ACT Plus Writing composite score of at least 22.
Get a passing score on the applicable content-area tests prior to
student teaching.
Get a passing score on the APT test for program completion.
Complete approved Illinois educator preparation program for the type
of endorsement sought that includes coursework addressing:
-Cross-categorical special education methods
-Methods of reading and reading in the content area
After completion of the program, the institution notifies ISBE that I have
completed all coursework and testing requirements needed for the
license/endorsement per current Illinois rules and regulations. After the
university enters the notification, I can use the badge on the ELIS website to
submit the application and fee for my license or endorsement.
