The Fresno Branch of the NAACP gets a new facelift
The local NAACP vows to uphold key services geared toward providing for victims of injustices (Fresno, Calif.) Its a new day with some of the same old issues in communities of color; many minorities--now the new majoritystill experience bouts of discrimination and racism in what some would call the two Americans: for the ones who live the dream and for the ones who live the daily nightmare. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has had a history of being the voice for the underserved citizens who often live in the restricted Americathe nightmare. Now under new leadership, the NAACP Fresno Branch President LeRoy Candler, Jr. is determined to have a directed focus on services for its members and community as a whole. We cant call ourselves a service organization if the greater community of color is still suffering, said Candler. We know that legal services are a big need and can be expensive. Thats why we want to provide real legal services that will provide our community with useful information. By using technology to inform the San Joaquin Valley of the most up-to-date issues nationwide and locally, the Fresno Branch of the NAACP intends to connect with the community via flyers, the web, through local black media partners and other local Valley NAACPs. We are grateful and appreciate the leadership team who helped to create the foundation and maintain the local organization, said Vice-President Atiya Cruise. Now we are able to focus on key services in the education arena, political sector and legal assistance.
