Fall 2014 Health Fair at Westminster Civic Center:

!

This past fall, VCH successfully screened over 200 patients at the Westminster Civic Center in the
city of Westminster. Due to our extensive efforts in outreach and a venue located in the heart of
the Vietnamese community, we were able to offer our services to a great number of individuals in
need. Services provided at this health fair include flu shots, hypertension and BMI screenings,
glucose and cholesterol screenings, dental services, bone density measurements, Hep B/C
screenings, vision screenings and mammograms. We also brought back our acupuncture and
chiropractic services with the help of Healing Hands for Humanity. All stations were occupied
with numerous patients in need of these health services and about 40 patients were able to
receive mammograms.

FALL QUARTER RECAP:

CSC Day of Service:

VCH Special Sites

CSC Skid Row | Gifts for the
Homeless:

For CSCs 12th Annual Day of Service,

VCH got the opportunity to help The
Giving Spirit in packing and delivering
hygiene kits to individuals on Skid Row.
Over ten VCH members rolled out bright
and early in the morning to fill up
reusable water bottles with toothpaste,
toothbrushes, antibiotic cream,
sunglasses, and other essential items.

VCH members had the opportunity to

attend this CSC Special Site where they
passed out health packs to homeless
women who had attended a talk on
nutrition and yoga. Members described
the volunteer event as extremely valuable
as they were able to see how drastically
different life on Skid Row is and how
grateful the women were for the gifts.

OC Toy Collaborative:

Over Winter Break, VCH members and

staff volunteered at the Orange County
Toy Collaborative in Westminster, where
we sorted, packed, and delivered donated
toys for children from low-income
households and broken families. Staff
and volunteers who attended had a
chance to get to know each other, and it
was a pleasure to play such an active role
in helping kids get gifts to unwrap for the
holidays. Giving back was a great way to
get into the holiday spirit!

CSC L.A. Kitchen:

Members also had the opportunity to

attend CSCs volunteer event at L.A.
Kitchen, a place that works to reclaim
food that would otherwise be thrown out
to make meals for the community.
Members got to help prepare healthy
foods that would be served to those in
need while gaining basic culinary skills.

FALL QUARTER RECAP:

PCH & VCH Social:
To end the quarter, we hosted our Winter PCH &
VCH Social. Over 40 members from VCH, PCH,
and CSC came out to celebrate the end of a
successful quarter and the upcoming holidays
with karaoke and games such as Taboo, Heads
Up, and Jenga. Even Olaf made an appearance in
our photobooth as attendees posed for pictures
throughout the event.

Dim Sum Fundraiser:

Last quarter, VCH held a Dim
Sum and Boba fundraiser,
selling authentic dim sum items
from Chinatown and delicious
boba milk tea from Volcano
Teahouse. Despite the rainy
weather, many members came
out to volunteer and the
fundraiser was a huge success,
raising over $400 for VCH!
Thanks to everyone who
supported us!

VCH News:!
We would like to recognize these members and extend our sincere gratitude for
their exceptional hard work and dedication to VCH.
