Legalize Same-Sex Marriage
Do American citizens believe in same sex marriage? Not everyone. There are those who
do believe that people who are homosexual should have the same rights as people who arent. Dr.
Ben Carson says Of course gay people should have the same rights as everyone else, but they
dont get extra rights, he continued. They do not get to redefine marriage (Hoenig Web). This
quote demonstrates how some people may not agree with marriage including everyone and may
simply feel that gays should just receive equal rights, just not in the dominion of marriage. Same
sex marriage should be legal all around the world.
Why do people disagree with same-sex marriage? It offends God. It does not create a
family. According to the bible it can be read
And the LORD God said, It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a
helper comparable to him. For Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.
And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one
of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the LORD God had
taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. And Adam said:
this is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, because
she was taken out of Man. Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be

joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And they were both naked, the man
and his wife, and were not ashamed. Genesis 2:18-25.
This quote demonstrates how religious people think Adam should be with Eve and not with
another Adam. Yes, gay marriage is banned in the bible, however it also says that you shall not
lie, steal, kill nor dis-respect mother or father. According to the bible, James 9:10-11 says, Who
are you to judge your brother and sister? If you judge, you are not doing the law but going
against the law. There is only one judge, he can save you, and break you, so who are you to judge
your neighbor. This quote demonstrates that no matter who you are you shouldnt judge
someone.
Same-sex marriage is legal in 36 states and banned in 14 states. In Michigan on May 21,
2014 a federal judge ruled gay marriage banned. July 1, 2014 US District Judge John G ruled
that Kentuckys constitutional amendment banning gay marriage it violates the equal
protection clause in US. According to Freedom to Marry
Eighteen countries have approved the freedom to marry for same-sex couples nationwide
(Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Canada, South Africa, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, Iceland,
Argentina, Denmark, France, Brazil, Uruguay, New Zealand, Britain, Luxembourg and Finland),
while two others have regional or court-directed provisions enabling same-sex couples to share
in the freedom to marry (Mexico and the United States). Many other countries provide some
protections for such couples. As more and more countries and parts of the United States win the
freedom to marry, we see that families are helped, and communities and countries made stronger,
by protecting all loving committed couples
The quote demonstrates that there are more states that are legal then illegal to marry same sex.

Some of the benefits of same sex marriage is more children would be adopted, veteran
and military benefits, and social security. About 6,500 children have lived with same sex parents.
People say children need a father and a mother to raise them but many believe that gender does
not matter when parenting. According to Live Science Gay parents "tend to be more motivated,
more committed than heterosexual parents on average, because they chose to be parents (Pappas
Web). This quote demonstrates that same sex parents tend to be better parents then heterosexual
parents. As a veteran you will receive is veterans benefits available through the Department of
Veterans Affairs and military retirement benefits though the (DOD) department of defensive.
Social Security Administration now will recognize and is able to pay out benefits to members of
same sex marriage. Same sex marriage couples can now submit claims for spousal benefits.
According to US News If you live in a state that recognizes same-sex marriage and you married
a same-sex partner in a state where same-sex marriages are valid, you can collect Social Security
retirement or survivor benefits based on your spouse's earnings record, if you're the right age to
collect spousal benefits, (Laurence Web) That quote demonstrates that couples that are gay or
straight should be entitled to the same rights.
Why same-sex marriage should be legal? It should be legal because you should be able to
love anyone you want without being judged. Love is love and god created everyone equal. If you
cant marry the one you love same sex how is that being equal. Same sex marriage couples have
just much of a right to marry as heterosexual couples. Not allowing same sex couples marry is a
form of discrimination against each others.
