Addressed to United Nations Secretary General; Ban Ki-Moon,

My name is Christian Jones and I would like to share with you my opinion and
current stand on the globalization world issue. It is evident that todays technology
such as television, phones, music etcetera, have widely influenced the cultures of
the world faster and more thoroughly than ever before. These globalization effects
could be advances or setbacks on the worlds cultures. Advances take place when
two cultures blend together in harmony, creating new areas of innovation for both of
the cultures. Globalization can be seen in different ways. I see globalization as the
most important way to revolutionize the world. However, setbacks occur when
cultures overpower other cultures. Some people feel that globalization is only a
setback because they do not want their own culture to be forgotten and overtaken.
These people exist today all over the world, but currently in ISIS and the Taliban.
Both groups are literally willing to kill anyone who opposes their view on nonglobalization. As a newly graduated student on the subject of this topic, my opinion
varies. I see globalization as a plus mostly. Globalization can revolutionize an
ancient culture for the better, while introducing that culture to new living habits,
religions, and even new foods. But, the downside of globalization occurs to me in
how fast it could abolish a sacred way of life. The modern technology we have at
this day and age is undermined in just how much it can affect a way of life. You Sir,
as the UNs current Secretary General, face issues regarding disorderly conduct over
culture a lot. For example, the killings that just occurred in Paris, France over a
satirical comic about Mohammed, a Muslim God. The gunman killed a police officer
and four hostages at a Jewish store. In a way, this crime can be linked to
globalization. The gunmans religion was publicly mocked by a store with owned by
a Jewish person. This is one example of how globalization is not beneficial. The
theme I chose to represent this letter is Terrorism. Ive talked about this theme a lot
with my class and realized it relates closely with the downside of Globalization. This
theme of terrorism also relates to the Chechens, a small Russian Ethnic group. The
Chechens were accused of being in cooperation with the Nazis in WWII. So, Stalin
had them all deported or killed. Stalin had no trouble doing this because the
Chechens were a small part of Russia. But the effects of his actions changed the
Chechens. Because now, the Chechens are currently the ethnic group with the
highest number of terrorist attacks within Russia. I used the Chechens as an
example of the bad side of globalization because it shows how a simple culture
could change for the worse so quickly. In conclusion, my final say toward
globalization is that we should let it affect only the cultures that do not oppose it.
Those who oppose it only become more violent when it is upon them. I hope my
opinion is helpful to you.
Sincerely,
Christian J. Jones
