Dear Parents/Guardians,
On Wednesday January 28 th, I would like to invite students, if they wish, to
bring their own personal electronic devices to school for a one day trial.
The purpose of bringing the electronics is to assist students during both
independent and group learning activities. Electronic devices (laptops and
tablets) are already being used in the classroom on a daily basis to gather and
organize information for projects and assignments, as well as enhance learning
in all curriculum areas. Unfortunately, our current supply of devices in the
classroom is fairly limited. By bringing their own devices, students will have
greater access to information and resources that will help them to complete
their work.
Students will have access to their devices during certain periods of the day.
For example, some students may choose to listen to music to help them
concentrate while working on math, e-books may be read on a tablet or ereader during our daily read-to-self, while others may use online dictionaries
and thesauruses to assist with writing and word work. At all other times
(recess, lessons, nutrition breaks, French, etc.), electronics will be kept in a
secure storage bin within the classroom.
The following electronics are allowable for use in the classroom:
Acceptable electronics for use in class:
Tablets (e.g. iPad)
Laptops
eReaders (e.g. Kobo)
mp3 devices (e.g. iPod)
Netbook or Chromebook
