Amos Chapters 7 - 9

The Future is the present with God.

Dr John C McEwan

The Plumbline of God

Verses 1 6
The vision here is of the
eating up of all the food in the land by the
grasshoppers of the enemy. God allows this to
occur, but from mans perspective then repents
before all is gone.
Verses 7 11
God will judge selectively the
people for their individual sins. If they are straight
they will live, if crooked they will die. The crooked
are not just criminal, they are often dodgy priests!

Threats of men versus the Promises

of God

Verses 12 13 Amos is told off by the priest

of the fake religion of Beth-EL to stop his
prophetic words and head home! This site is
the kings, and he is right, for it certainly
isnt Gods (EL).
Verses 14 17 This false priest will suffer great
grief, humiliation and shame, and finally die in
a foreign land. Amos however will be kept, for
he simply does Gods work His way.

The Basket of Summer Fruit

Verses 1 3
The people of the northern ten
tribes have failed to bear good fruit; they bring forth
evil fruit consistently. God cannot overlook them any
longer. They will be judged and die in multitudes, and
none will live to mourn them all.
Verses 4 10
They have been corrupt in
their business, and violent in their oppression of their
own people. Their sins have gone up to the heavens
and they have not repented of them.

When the Word of God is rejected

there is no truth to protect you.

Verses 11 14 To turn away from the truth of

Gods Word leaves only the lies of the devil to
be followed. There is no hope for those who
have turned from hope.
Ch 9 Verses 1 4 The Lord stands upon the
pagan altar and blasts the people of Israel who
have worshipped falsely and behaved in evil,
and so they will reap what they sowed.

Hope in the End Times

Verses 5 6
The Lord is King and they
will all know this by the end of time.
Verses 7 10
The judgment will be
selective with the sinners dying for their own
sins, but all the Jewish people of all the tribes
will eventually be sifted into the nations.
Verses 11 15 The story does not end with
dispersion, for there is restoration through the
house of David. Zechariah 12:10ff.
