Albert Lea, MN 56007 Dear Parent: This letter is to inform you that _____ has had three or more unexcused absences and/or class periods of school so far this year on the following dates: September 8-10,2014 for full day absences. Unless you have notified the school otherwise of a valid excuse for those absences, the student is considered a truant on those dates. According to Minnesota Statute 260A.03, a notice must be sent to the parent or guardian under the Continuing Truant Minnesota Statute 260A.02 subd.3. COMPULSORY INSTRUCTION MN STATUTE 120A.22 defines ages and terms as follows: Every child between 7 and 17 years of age must receive instruction unless the child has graduated. MINNESOTA STATUTE 260A.03: You, the parent/guardian are obligated to comply with the mandatory attendance laws, and if you fail to meet this obligation, you may be subject to prosecution; you have the right to meet with appropriate school personnel to discuss solutions to the students truancy: If the student continues to be truant, the parent and student may be subject to juvenile court proceedings. The student is subject to juvenile court proceedings, the student may be subject to suspension, restriction, or delay of the students driving privileges pursuant to Minnesota Statute 260C.201. Finally, we recommend that the parent/guardian of a truant student accompany the student to school and attend classes with the child for one day. Please feel free to contact the school to make arrangements for such a visit. We believe that success in school is directly related to good attendance during the school year.
