As we know, binge drinking is becoming a serious problem, with an
average of 22% of 16-24 year old women drinking over the weekly
recommended amount of alcohol, and an average of 18% for 16-24
year old men, in the UK alone. Binge for Britain is all about stating
the facts and figures, so by the end of it, will YOU still be able to
binge for Britain?

The European School Survey Project on Alcohol and other Drugs is the
most detailed international study of its kind, covering teenagers' drinking,
smoking and drug-taking habits in 32 European countries. The UK sample
involved 2,179 teenagers: 1,004 boys and 1,175 girls. UK teenagers
ranked third highest in terms of saying they had been drunk within 30
days of the survey, on 33%. It was revealed that teenage girls in the UK
were more likely than boys to have been binge drinking in the previous 30
days. Im here at _____ hospital to find out exactly why and what is

It is estimated that 2.6 million children in the UK are living with parents
who are drinking hazardously and 705,000 living with dependent drinkers,
Alcohol is a causal factor in more than 60 medical conditions, including:
mouth, throat, stomach, liver and breast cancers; high blood pressure,
cirrhosis of the liver; and depression and There were 1.2 million alcoholrelated hospital admissions in England in the year 2011/12, a 135%
increase since 2003 with were 8748 deaths directly related to alcohol in
UK.
Malcolm:
In 2009, about 10.4 million young people between ages 12 and 20 drank
more than just a few sips of alcohol. As kids get older, they drink more.
By the age of 15, half of teens have had at least one drink. By age 18,
more than 70% of teens have had at least one drink. 5,000 people under
age 21 die each year from alcohol-related car crashes, homicides,
suicides, alcohol poisoning, and other injuries such as falls, burns, and
drowning, with More than 190,000 people under age 21 visited an
emergency room for alcohol-related injuries in 2008 alone.
Richard:
Buying alcohol under the age of 18 can cost you a fixed penalty of 40 or
up to 1000 if you go to court. Buying alcohol for a person under 18
carries an 80 fixed penalty. A survey of 16 to 24 year olds showed that
after drinking alcohol: 1 in 7 had unprotected sex. 1 in 5 had sex they
regretted. 1 in 10 were unable to recall whether they had sex or not. 4 in
10 say they are more likely to have sex. In 2003 there were 580 fatalities
and 2600 serious injuries on the road where at least 1 driver was over the
limit.
