=beyond ordinary or common
experience, thought, or belief
Transcendentalism= an American literary, political,
and philosophical movement.
Philosophy that says the principles of reality are
to be discovered by the study of the process of
thought; emphasizes the intuitive and spiritual
above the empirical. assoc. with Emerson
Empirical= guided by material or experience or
observation, no theory involved
