Hawaii? Did you like the humidity?

Now has anyone ever watched a
Polynesian dance? Do you think it is
challenging? What muscles do you
think they use? (Abs, thighs,
shoulders) Do you think they move
fast or slow? Would you be able to
move like this? We are going to
watch a clip of a Polynesian dancing.
Whats so neat about the way they
move? How do they move? The
dance is expressed in telling stories
through movement. They use a
variety of movements such as hips,
hands, shoulders, and feet. Its not
about the motion, however more
about how the pieces fit together
with easy grace.
After watching the video, I am going
to try to demonstrate the way they
moved in the video. They used their
hands, feet, hips, and shoulders to
create their dance. When they start
out, it begins slow then moves way
fast. Pay attention to the way I move
and how fast or slow I am moving.
When I get through you will have a
chance to dance. Remember no one
has to be perfect at this because it is
your first time and it will be a
challenge.
After I have finished showing you my
creation of they dance, you will all
have the opportunity to move this
way. There will be no deduction if
you cant move the exact way like
the way they did in the video. Try
your best to move the way I did
(teacher). You can move fast or slow.

You can move other body parts,

including the hips, hands, feet, and
shoulders. One, Two, Three, GO!!
When the class gets done practicing,
I will yell STOP. I will have the class
line up and I will be standing in front
of the entire class. I will choose a
student to move anyway they
remember dancing. For example, it
could be they moved really fast or
moved with their feet while twirling
their hands. Give the students the
option to choose.

We learned as a class how the

Polynesian dance to create grace. It
is not about the motion itself, but
how the pieces fit together. The
students were able to participate
dancing using certain body parts as
well as including other ones they
would like. I could have them come
up with a little dance on their own
and teach it to a group of students in
the classroom. This will provide me
with feedback knowing the students
comprehended the lesson on
dancing like Polynesians.
