QUESTION 2

Goods and services not sold in market, such as food


produced and consumed at home, are generally not
included in GDP. Can you think of how this might
cause the numbers for real GDP per person to be
misleading in a comparison of economic well being
of USA and India? Explain.

Explanation…

 For example, home baked food products are not traded in
market instead they are consumed. For these, the labour
cost is not included in the GDP.

 In India the women participation in labour force is less as


compared to US economy, so, their labour cost is not
included in the GDP.
