Abstract: Beijing, as t he biggest consuming cit y, w ere inhabit ed w it h businessm en f rom all over Chi
na. Shop ow ners, t hus named by t he f eudal go vernm ent administ ratio n, ref er red to those businessm en
w ho had t heir ow n sho ps dealing w it h business. T he shop ow ner s w as a phenomenon of cert ain st age
of co mmercial process, many of w hom o w ned cent enary old shops, g rain shops and priv at e banks
w hich had had pro found influence upo n Beijing social life, some of t hem w ere businessmen w ho ow ned
many shops and f or use o f emper ors. T hey play ed significant roles in Beijing, and even in nat ional econom ical f unctioning , how ever, t heir capit al accumulation had t oo close relat io nship w it h feudal poli
t ics, t herefo re, t hey cannot add new vigo r t o t he developm ent of com mercial econo my.
