FCCLA PLANNING
PROCESS

IDENTIFY CONCERNS
According to newchoicesinc.org/help/TDV/stats, three in four teens say that boyfriend/girlfriend relationships start at the age
of 14. Only half of all teens know the warning signs of an unhealthy relationship. According to loveisrespect.org/is-this-abuse/datingviolence-statistics , 1.5 million teenagers nationwide experience physical abuse from a dating partner in one year. In addition, we feel
that our school is full of unhealthy relationships whether its between the students in general, a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship,
teacher/student relationships, and teacher/teacher relationships. Our concern is that the young adults in our community do not know
how to have proper healthy relationships.

SET A GOAL
Our first goal is to educate and inform our peers about healthy relationships. Our second goal is to show our peers how to
have a healthy relationship by presenting our project to the junior high and high school classes. Our last goal is to also host an
assembly to elaborate further on the topic of healthy relationships.

ACT
We presented our project to the junior high students and to the high school life skills class. After the presentation we asked
the students some questions like: What do you think about healthy relationships? We handed out a survey about healthy
relationships to the high school life skills class. We also contacted the executive director of Healing Heart and Families and asked if
she would like to present to the junior high and high school students.

FOLLOW UP
We received positive feedback from the students and teachers. They appreciate what we have done and plan to do. One of the
teachers even commented that, Not having healthy relationships is a problem that needs to be dealt with. Sometime in the next few

months, we plan to have the executive director of Healing Heart and Families come and host an assembly on healthy relationships
and relationship abuse for the junior high and high school students. We also plan to distribute the healthy relationship survey to more
high school students to further our statistics.

FACS and/or Career Relationship:

Our project promotes our FCCLA mission statement and seven out of eight FCCLA purposes as well as
the National Family and Consumer Sciences Standards. The standard is 1.0 Career, Community, and Life
Connections and 2.0 - Consumer and Family Resources. By analyzing community resources and systems of
formal and informal support available to individuals and families. We applied management and planning skills
and processes to organize tasks and responsibilities. By completing this project, we discovered two career
pathways; Arts, A/V Technology and Communications career cluster, we learned to design, produce, exhibit,
perform, write, and publish multimedia content that includes visual, performing arts, design, journalism, and
entertainment services. In the other career pathway, Human Services, we learned this project helped individuals
prepare for employment that relates to family and human needs.
