WHS requirements

Context of and
specific
resources for
assessment

Teachers are to provide a comprehensive WHS induction to the

Engineering learning space, drawing links to the practices in a construction
workplace. Students will be expected to consistently apply WHS
requirements, policies and procedures at school and the workplace.
The RTO endorsed the use of in school safety testing such to ensure that
students are correctly trained in the use of engineering specific tools and
equipment.

The Metal & Engineering Course (comprising of the MEM10105 Certificate I in

Engineering and the Stage 6 NSW Metal & Engineering Industry Curriculum
Framework Course) is designed to develop a basic understanding of the role of the
student in the Engineering Sector. The course and its associate assessments are
designed to develop greater understanding and appreciation for the requirements
of employees in the industry and introduce students to Engineering processes and
skills in basic manufacturing. The course is not designed to develop trade level
proficiency in skills and knowledge.
These competencies are to be assessed using standard and authorised work
practices, safety requirements and environmental constraints. Assessment of
essential underpinning knowledge will usually be conducted in an engineering
work/industry context. Assessment is to comply with relevant regulatory or
Australian standards requirements.
Resource implications for assessment include:
an induction procedure and requirement
realistic tasks or simulated tasks covering the mandatory task
requirements
relevant specifications and work instructions
tools and equipment appropriate to activity
support materials appropriate to activity
workplace instructions relating to safe work practices and addressing
hazards and emergencies
material safety data sheets
research resources, including industry related systems information.
Reasonable adjustments for people with disabilities must be made to assessment
processes where required. This could include access to modified equipment and
other physical resources, and the provision of appropriate assessment support.

Preparation
prior to
RTO Assessment Task

It is important to remember that the laws protecting the Work Health and Safety of
people at work apply to students. These laws emphasize the need to take
reasonable steps to eliminate or control risk at work. You are encouraged to help in
eliminating hazards by reporting anything that you think may be a risk to you or
other people to your teacher.
