Task Title Did you know?
IB Aims To
-encourage students to recognize the importance of the contexts in which texts are written and
received
-promote in students an enjoyment of, and lifelong interest in, language and literature
Essential Question: What essential question(s) does the task address?
What unique elements make drama, and more specifically Shakespearean tragedy, different from
other genres?
Learning Objectives: What skills, knowledge and understandings will be demonstrated to show
that standards were met?
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of individual literary works as representatives of
their genre and period, and the relationships between them
Demonstrate an understanding of the ways in which cultural values are expressed in literature
Demonstrate awareness of the significance of the context in which a work is written and
received
Substantiate and justify ideas with relevant examples
Task Description: Through what performance task will students demonstrate understanding,
skills and knowledge related to the stated standards? What role will the student assume for the
task and who will be the audience for the task?
Students will be researching a word associated with Shakespeare and/or Macbeth to gain an
understanding of the cultural context in which it was written.
Product/Performance: What product or performance will provide evidence of the applied
understandings, skills and knowledge?
Students will design flyers that inform residents of the nearby Birnam Wood subdivision about
their subdivisions name and the significance of the street names. All of the streets are associated

In the spirit of Creativity, Action, and Service, students will canvas the streets to help residents
learn more about their neighborhood.

Assessment criteria: By what criteria will the student performance be evaluated?

*Paper 2 A, B, and D (these will be altered a bit to fit the task)

So your research question should go something like this:

How does the street name Arden Way relate to Shakespeare and/or Macbeth?
