Therearefourcluesscientistscanusetodetermineifachemicalreaction(change)hasoccurred.Thefirst
isthereleaseorintakeofheatresultinginatemperaturechange.Reactionsthatconsume(takein)heatare
calledendothermic(endo=INthermic=heat),whilereactionsthatrelease(giveoff)heatarecalled
exothermic(exo=OUTthermic=heat).Thesecondclueisacolorchange.Whennewproductsare
formed,theyoftenhavedifferentphysicalproperties(colors)thanthereactants.Thethirdclueisthe
formationofagas,whichiseasilyobservedasbubbling.Lastly,istheformationofaprecipitate.A
precipitateisasolidthatformswhentwoliquidsarecombined.Precipitatesmayfullysinktothebottomofa
solutionormaybeobservedasacloudinessintheliquids.
