State of HIV/AIDS Science and Treatment Literacy:

#KnowBetterDoBetter On-Line Press Conference to Announce
Shocking Findings from Survey of AIDS Workforce
Knowledge About HIV
Who:

What:

The Black AIDS Institute, the only national HIV/AIDS think tank in the U.S. focused
exclusively on Black people, releases shocking findings from the national, HIV workforce
Knowledge, Attitudes, and Beliefs Survey during the State of HIV/AIDS Science and
Treatment Literacy: When We Know Better, We Do Better media briefing.
The AIDS epidemic has claimed the lives of more than 650,000 Americans and
devastated countless communities. Many believe that it can be brought to an end in our
lifetime. However the recent, HIV Workforce Knowledge, Attitudes, and Beliefs
Survey of over 3,600 respondents from 43 states, DC and U.S. territories conducted by
the Black AIDS Institute, in partnership with, CDC, the Latino Commission on AIDS,
the National Association of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD), Johns
Hopkins University- Bloomberg School of Public Health, and Janssen
Therapeutics, Division of Janssen Products, LP, points out that there is one critical
road block to this goal. The study shows that the non-medical HIV/AIDS workforce in the
U.S. may not have the HIV science and treatment knowledge needed to respond to the
current AIDS epidemic.
