Update February 2015

Dear Parents:
You will be receiving the first term report
card this month and you will have an
idea how your child has been
performing in different subjects. Your
child is aware in what areas he or she
needs to improve and have set
leadership and academic Wildly
Important Goals (WIGs) for Term 2.
Each student has selected an
accountability partner in class with
whom they discuss their progress in
following their WIGs every morning.
They use their agenda calendar to
record their progress. Many have also
chosen their parents as accountability
partners at home. We encourage you to
review the goals your child has set and
the specific steps he or she has taken to
achieve them. This could be a strong
motivating factor for them to reach their
goals and perform better for Term 2.
We are starting a LeaderInMe Class
Management strategy where students
are encouraged to behave as Leaders
to earn rewards. Misbehaviour will lead
to loss of rewards and to the writing of a
letter of apology.
We are having skating at the Malton
Arena on February 9 and 24 between
10:30 and 11:30 am. We would
appreciate if you could volunteer during
our skating trips.

Languages
In French, students are learning how to
write sentences correctly using the
success criteria. We have started
Edmodo, where the students have
opportunities to communicate with one
another and improve their writing. They
will earn badges for active participation,
for writing perfect sentences or for
identifying errors.
Parents can access it if they so desire.
They will be provided a password.
Students will be presenting their inquiry
on La Francophonie this month.
In English, students are learning:
- How to infer (read between the lines,
look at pictures for clues)
- How to write a narrative (setting,
characters, problem and solution).
- To find evidence in the text and their
schema (personal knowledge and
experiences) to support their inferences
Things you can do at home:
- Encourage your child to make up
stories and share them with. - Look at
commercials and predict who is the
intended audience

Habit 6 Synergize

Science & Technology

In Understanding Life Systems Habitats and Communities, students will
analyze the effects of human activities
on habitats and communities and
demonstrate an understanding of the
interdependence of plants and animals
and how society relies on plants and
animals for survival.

We all know, two are better than one.

There are many things which can be
done much faster with a helping hand.
Thats why we should synergize. We
can accomplish more, we can do
faster, we can do better.
Normally:
1+1=2
Synergize:
1+1=4
By synergizing. we produces MORE
than by doing it individually. We
encourage students to synergize by
sharing their ideas and their effort to
do a task or an assignment. They
learn from one another and its a
Win-Win situation (Habit 4)
