REFLECTIVE JOURNAL
WEEK ONE
(1 FEBRUARY 2015 5 FEBRUARY 2014)

Problems/Issues
There was not so much problem that I faced for this first week. I went into my
class for the first time on Wednesday which is 5 UPM. This is class no one for
year 5. There are 20 pupils in that class but there were two absentees and two
pupils went for takraw game. The pupils attitude is not that problem for me I think
because there are only 20 pupils and most of them are well behaved but there is
one little problem that is I found that some pupils are very shy and they do not
have gut to speak even though they can speak actually though just short
responses. When they speak, they tend to speak slowly and it is very
uncomfortable for me because I want to hear them speak.
Problems analysis
a) Identify the focus issue:
- Some pupils have problem in speaking. They are too shy to speak or maybe they
have low self- esteem.
b)
-

Identify the factors of that problem:

Pupils never use English as their communication medium.
Pupils feel uncomfortable in class.
Pupils are too shy and are not confident with their English.

Suggestion:
1. Teacher should promote pupils to speak in the class more by teacher themselves
use English language in class.

2. Teacher need to constantly ask pupils oral questions and ask pupils to respond
and answer in English. (no need for full sentences, just short answers and words
will do)
3. Teach pupils how to speak comfortably.
Time allocation:
I will use these suggestion ways next week on first class Im teaching. I will evaluate the
result of this strategy by the end of this month (February).
Action:
I will ask a lot of questions to the shy people and guide them to answer the questions
slowly. I will teach them how to answer question with simple sentences. By always ask
those shy pupils questions, I hope it can help them to improve and also to boost their
confidence level.
