Susan B. Anthony was not allowed to vote because she was a women
not a man.

was right

Efforts to Have the Right to Vote


Despite the efforts of many people,
change came slowly. In 1870 African
American men were granted the right
to vote. But, it was still against the
law for any women to vote. Anthony
worked for many years to change this.
She shared her beliefs about equality
and justice with government officials
and civil rights leaders. She gave
speeches across the country about
changing the constitution to grant all
women the right to vote.

Susan B . Anthony was born


in Adams, Massachusetts, in
1820.

Susan B . Anthony wanted women to have the right to vote in 1872 arrested
for voting in Rochester, New York She gave speeches throughout Ontario
county, New York.

Women Suffrage
Anthony met a woman name Elizabeth at an
anti-slavery convention. The tow worked
together to form the American Equal Rights
Association. This group worked to win
suffrage for men and women. Suffrage is the
right to vote. They started a newspaper
called the Revolution, which published
articles arguing for suffrage. They also
organized the National Women Suffrage
Association.

Susan B. Anthony died in 1906 she died be for women was allowed to vote.
Women were allowed to vote in 1920.
