East Millbrook Middle School Chorus

Mr. Rahsaan McNeill, Director

Welcome to the East Millbrook Magnet Middle School Chorus Program! My name is Mr.
McNeill and I am your choral director. I am very glad that you have decided to make music a part
of your school day, and it is my goal to provide an outstanding musical experience for you and
your classmates. During the school year, you will be learning how to sing with proper vocal
technique, to read and write music, and participate in several concerts both here at school and in
the community. This syllabus will provide you will with all the information you need to be
successful in your chorus class; please be sure to read it in its entirety.
Chorus Materials:
You and your voice (Please be sure to take care of your voice! No screaming and get
plenty of rest.)
3-ring Binder
Experiencing Choral Music: Beginning Sight-singing (available in chorus room)
Experiencing Choral Music: Literature (available in chorus room)
Pencil with eraser (you must have this at all times)
Folder to hold notes and your music (provided by Mr. McNeill)
Grading Policies:
Your grade will be based on the percentage of points you earn in three categories: major
assessments, minor assessments, and homework. The grade breakdown is as follows:

Grade Scale

Grade Categories
Major Assessments

60%

Minor Assessments

30%

Homework

10%

93-100

85-92

77-84

70-76

0-69

All assignments, whether they be major, minor, or homework, are expected to be turned in on
time.
If homework is late, you will call your parents (using the classroom phone) to inform
them of your missing work. This information will be recorded in Mr. McNeills parent
call log. After you contact your parents, you will then be assigned to the next
Wednesday Academy (unless the work is turned in before then). All late homework will
be subjected to a 10% penalty.

If you fail or receive a low score on a test, you will be allowed to retest. In order to
retest, you must spend the evening making corrections to your test and also studying any
concepts that you need to improve upon. When Mr. McNeill receives your corrected test,
you will take the retest. Please be advised that the retest will be a different test from the
original. After the retest is taken, Mr. McNeill will record the second test score, whether
it is higher or lower.
