PARCC ASSESSMENT FOR GRADES 3-8

Grades 3-8 at ZAE will be taking the PARCC assessment this
February and April. This exam is a very important assessment
of high quality. We use this test to measure how much our
students are learning each year in school. It will give teachers
the ability to identify which students need extra help in order
to succeed and move on to the next grade.

This exam is also unique because it will be taken online instead of on paper! Because this is our first time
using a computer for a test, we have been diligently practicing how to take each assessment online in
order to better understand it when it really counts!
This test will be taken on the mornings of February 17th to March 2nd. If your student is absent during these
days, make-up exams will take place from March 3-13th.

HOW TO PREPARE AND SUPPORT YOUR CHILD DURING TESTING:

True or false: standardized tests are tough. The answer depends on how prepared your student is. Here
are three ways to help your student handle test week:
1. Explain that the tests will show how much your student has learned. Encourage them to try their best,
but dont put so much emphasis on them that they feel stressed.
2. Practice the test format. For example, your student might have to read a paragraph and answer
questions. Using a textbook, have them look at the questions at the end of the section first and then
read the passage. That will help him know what to do and how to find the answers. You can also find
practice PARCC tests online at: http://parcc.pearson.com/practice-tests/
3. Limit activities the night before tests. You may want to avoid having guests for dinner or skip an
event if it means staying out late or adding distractions. Be sure your student gets enough rest!

SPRING BOOK FAIR

Zenith Academy East is preparing for our second book fair! Ms. Hamdiya Salifu and the student body
have designed and decorated an incredible Under the Sea library to host our Scholastic Book Fair.
Each homeroom participated in a competition to see which class could create the best window display.
The winning homerooms, Miss Stevens K2, Mr. Hinkles 5th grade, Mr. Gedeons 6A, won an Under the
Sea themed cupcake party, hosted by Ms. Hamdiya!
We encourage all students and families to come visit the book fair, check out the decorations, and buy
some great stories for your students! Our book fair will be held from Monday, February 9th to
Tuesday, February 17th.
