WORKING STATIONS

BLENDED LEARNING PLAN

Students are broken up into
smaller and manageable groups

Development

Group Practice

Collaboration

Individual
Practice

Once the lessons are concluded

the teacher will set up working
stations
The lessons prior to this learning
activity have multiple
techniques on how to solve
many real world problems

WORKING STATIONS

APPLIED
CALCULUS
Logistics:
The development
station will start with
two groups.
After the first station is
done then they may
split off into other
stations.
This will mean that
every station will have
one group within the
station except one
station will have two
groups.

Development (laptops provided): This station is when the

students can think about what type of problem they want to
investigate to eventually present to the class. The task is to
create a problem that will be solved using methods that they
have learned in class. This problem must be an original work.
They may work on it with another student but the groups may
not exceed two. Therefore in this station there may be multiple
groups. They may split off right away or discuss their tasks
together. Here is the actual assignment: Module 4 Link
Group Practice: The teacher will provide the students with
practice problems that involve real world situations. They may
work on it together in their station to arrive at solutions.
Collaboration(Laptops & document camera provided; cell
phones may be used): This station is done sometime after the
development station. Once the individual groups are formed for
Module 4, this is the time when students can work together and
actually attack their problem and attempt to even complete their
task. If it is not completed then they must finish the project
outside of class time.
Individual Practice: Although there is a group in this station,
the teacher will provide students with practice on different
applications that they should work on individually.

SUMMARY
This is a cumulating project. This appears toward the end of chapter 1 in
the Applied Calculus book. The lesson is created in order to provide faceto-face collaboration between peers so that they can hopefully learn from
each other. Not only is this a project that requires knowledge of the
subject, but it also requires social skills and challenges that will be
achieved through integration. Working in groups will allow students to
share their organizational skills along with their subject skills. The
teacher should see much discussion occurring in every station except for
the individual station.
The online portion of the activity is mainly used to extend the activities in
order to give the students skills in investigating whats out there and how
it is related to the course.
Because there are practice problems and a final video, the teacher is able
to evaluate the students on how much they understand through different
means. Even after the module is complete, students should be
presenting their videos for others to enjoy and also critique.
