Programming Purpose
The purpose of this learning experience will be to give the children the opportunity to express
themselves freely by using their fingers as a medium to paint. The children will paint on a
piece of paper, using a variety of colors and use their fingers to paint. The children will be
given freedom to paint whatever they like and will be encouraged to use their imagination. I
have noticed that the children enjoy hands on experiences and during my former art activities
they wanted to use their fingers to paint rather than use a marker to draw.
Objectives:
The children will:
1. Further develop their aesthetic abilities as they use their sense of touch to explore the
learning experience. The children will be using their fingers to paint a picture and will
be dipping their hands into the paint to create the artwork.
2. Enhance their physical abilities as they enhance their motor skills to paint the picture.
They will be moving their arm to paint the picture which focuses on their gross motor
skills. The children will also be moving their finger to paint and this will enhance their
fine motor development as they move their fingers to paint details such as their name.
3. Increase their social skills as they share the paint with the other children in the room.
The children will be given paint on paper plates and will dip their fingers into the paint.
They will be sharing the paint amongst three to four children.
Setting the Stage
Materials:
Red, Yellow, Blue, Orange, Green and brown paint
Finger painting paper

Role of the Educator


Introduction:
This leaning experience will be introduced in the morning time after the children eat their
snack in an attempt to get all the children to try their learning experience. The children will be
called to the table to try the learning experience and I will have about 3 to 4 children at a
time.
Teaching Strategy #1: Sensory Engagement
This teaching strategy will be used to allow the children firsthand experience with the material
associate with the learning experience. The children will be using their sense of touch to feel
the paint and use it to paint a picture. The children will experience the pressing their hands
onto the paper and exploring the texture. The texture of the paper will also be something that
the children explore because it is not like regular paper. The paper has more of a glossy feel to
it and the children will experience it once they start painting on it. The children will also be
smelling the paper and therefor use their sense of smell.
Teaching Strategy #2: Invitations
This teaching strategy will be used to get the children motivated to try the learning
experience. As long as I have been in the classroom, I have noticed that the children have
never done finger painting. This teaching strategy will allow me to up sell the idea of finger
painting to the children by getting them amped to try it. It will also allow me to get the
children to flow thoroughly through the learning experience by rotating children when one is
done. This will ensure that a maximum of children are able to try the learning experience. I
will tell the children come over here and see what your friends are doing and look what we
are doing with our fingers over here.
Teaching Strategy #3: Behavior Reflections
This teaching strategy will allow the children to focus on their action, which in this case, will
the painting using their fingers. The children will be painting a picture and I will observe them
as they paint. I will be describing what their painting looks like and the actions that they are
doing. This includes circular motions, vertical lines, horizontal lines and even directions such
as left and right. I will be discussing the childrens pictures and use specific words to describe
them. For example if I see something that a child drew that resembles a plane I could ask

them that a nice plane. I could even further their vocabulary by saying thats a jumbo jet or a
fighter plane. This will allow them to learn new things based on their behavior.
Positive Reinforcement Strategies:
I will use positive language when speaking with the children and encourage them to try to be
as creative as they can. I will also tell the children to use their imagination as much as
possible. When the children are finished they will wash up and find another activity to try.
Setting Limits:
All the material must remain at the table and the children must clean up after themselves.
This includes extensively washing their hands once they are finished.
