Evaluation of Horror Film Poster

1. Annotate your film poster to show how it follows the
conventions of the horror genre, and a film poster.

I chose this masthead as it is

another one word for curse which
has connotations of horror because
its something that you cant get rid of
and causes frightening events such
as death
I chose coming soon
as a
release date because it causes
suspense. It represents the
horror conventions as you dont
know the exact time so it will
surprise you like the graphic
scenes of the film
I chose the age certificate 18 it
will suggest that my movie
consists of bloody and graphic
scenes

The red coloured masthead

suggests blood which
matches the characters face.
It has connotations of
gruesome murders/injuries

The machete of the

antagonist is a prop and
suggests danger as it is a
weapon used to injure or
kill others. The prop links
to my red hand because
the machete could have
been used to cause it.

Question 1:
How high is the standard of the production? Does the
poster have a high quality to it? Does it accurately look
like a film poster? How have you manipulated your images?
My image is high standard as it was taken by a high
quality camera in a drama studio which had different
coloured lighting. I chose the colour lighting green as it
was different to the conventional horror colours such as
red and black. However, it fits as it builds tension and
has connotations of possession which represents the
antagonist . It represents the antagonist because curses
are not human form, it possesses people and lead bad
luck your way. I manipulated my image by adding filter
which were a shade of darkness around the corner and
sand surrounding the body, this fits in the horror
conventions as the purpose
of 2:
it was to suggest a scope .

conventions of a film poster? Have the group included all
key elements such as masthead, tagline, rating, horror
imagery, or blurb?
The film poster includes all the key elements such as
the masthead which is The Scourge. This relates to
horror because curses are mysterious and you cant
do anything to prevent the tragedies from happening.
Ive also included a tagline saying its a blood-soaked
cycle this suggests to the audience that there will be
graphic scenes in the movie such as bloody deaths
which are some of the narratives of a horror film. My
poster includes a rating of 5 star and shows horror
imagery because the image of my poster gives the
audience a glimpse of what the antagonist can do to
innocent people. The film poster adheres to the
codes and conventions of a film poster as it includes
some of the names of the actors in my movie, also,

Question 3:
How does the film poster adhere to the conventions
of the horror genre? Is the imagery linked to horror
narrative events, key characters or mise-en-scene?
The film poster adheres to the conventions of the
horror genre as the lighting effects creates a
dark, sinister atmosphere. Also because the
image links to a horror narrative event which is a
death scene including fake blood and props such
as a red bloody hand. The location of the image
suggests a wooden floor set in a normal family
house. This suggests not just adults are being
affected by the antagonist but children too. The
character in the image wears a plain white shirt

Questions for written evaluation responses for

film poster construction.

adhere to when constructing my film poster?
2. What conventions of the film poster did o

green screening, make-up, lighting etc) did I
develop by completing the film poster?
4. What images did you manipulate to complete
your
5. What elements of the horror poster could of
be improved and why?

1. Some of the horror conventions I adhered when creating this poster included
dark green lighting of the image which created a suspense atmosphere. I also
added a dark filtered shade around the corners which intimidates the audience
as it suggest the antagonist is surrounding its innocent victim
2. Conventions of a film poster I adhered when creating my poster included a
threatening mast head such as The Scourge. The purpose of this masthead is
to give the audience a glimpse of who or what the antagonist and what the
whole plot of the film is about. The Scourge has never been used as a
masthead before which makes the audience more eager to watch the movie as
it appeals to them to be unique. I Also added a tagline to entice the audience. I
added social media logos for example Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr to make it

I used the

to get rid of the unwanted bits around my fonts. I started using the fake blood
from the top side of his head then tilted his head to make it drip down from his
face. When taking the photograph, there was already green lighting from the
drama studio too add effects and intimidate the audience.
4. When completing my poster, I didnt manipulate any images as the
photograph included everything I needed I wanted such as a victim with makeup blood. I started using the fake blood from the top side of his head then tilted
his head to make it drip down from his face. I separated layers to add different
fonts of sentences into my poster such as the critics quotes
5. Some elements I could improve on were the mis-en-secne costume. As I
used a white school shirt, I could show a struggled battle between the victim
and the antagonist by ripping it or added make-up for example black dirt.
