1. Gapminder Countries positions-Ethiopia: average income per person is $1,307 and average life expectancy
of 63 years
-India: average income per person is $5,198 and average life expectancy of
66 years
-Yemen: average income per person is $4,116 and average life expectancy of
67 years
-Indonesia: average income per person is $9,224 and average life expectancy
of 71 years
-US: average income per person is $51,471 and average life expectancy of 79
years
2. Reasons for Countries levels-Ethiopia: 1. not enough resources to support fast growing population 2.
30% of vulnerable to food insecurity
-India: 1. 30% of population below poverty line 2. poor nutrition and
widespread of hunger
-Yemen: 1. high unemployment and poverty 2. higher dependency on food
imports
-Indonesia: 1. job creation has increased but poverty still persists 2. most
depend on agriculture for income
-US: 1. very strong economy and plenty of jobs available for most everyone
2. plenty of food and good health care

4. 3 conclusions from 200 Countries, 200 Years, 4 Minutes-In 1810, all countries were sick and poor and the life expectancy for most of
them was below 40 years old.
-The Western countries were getting healthier in the early 1900s while the
Eastern countries werent. Asia was still very poor and very sick.
-In the 1970s, Asia and South America started to catch up with the Western
countries and became emerging economies.
