competencies in response to the ever-changing demands for productivity organizations
and other skilled services both in the government and private sectors.
GOALS
The College adopts the following goals embraced by the different
curricular offerings:
1. To develop quality skilled technicians, paraprofessionals, mentors and
technologists as agents in attaining the national objectives (NIC-hood status):

2. To elevate the morale of manual labor by educating the youth with quality
technological education and skills development.
OBJECTIVES
The College of Technology of the Tarlac State University aims to develop skilled
technicians, paraprofessionals. Entrepreneurs, mentors and technologists who:
1. Understand the national goals and objectives on development demanded by
modernization, and
2. Equip with knowledge and skills necessary for technical-vocational
instruction, entrepreneurship, and industrial and service shop management.
3. Obtain adequate industrial training and seminars for the enhancement of
technical capabilities in the preparation for employment.
4. Possess desirable work attitude leading to the attainment of high productivity
of carry-on the socio-economic thrust of the government.
5. Capable of conducting research study and apply new knowledge for the
improvement of academic programs as well as the individuals life.
Have the interest in doing extension services to help improve peoples lifestyles.

I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
In this course, the student will learn to diagnose, inspect and replace or reinstall
the clutch components, which will include, clutch disc, pressure plate, fly wheel, and
throw out bearing, pilot bearing and bell housing. Students will learn to remove and
reinstall the manual transmission and transaxle assembly and to replace gaskets and seals.
Students will learn to diagnose and determine necessary action for constant velocity (CV)
joints, universal joints, yokes, front drive shaft boots and center support bearing. Students
will learn to inspect diagnose and determine necessary action for pinion seal, ring and
pinion contact patterns, axles shaft wheel studs, axle seals and bearings, as well as
measure the axle flange run-out

II. LEARNING UNITS


COURSE CONTENT
A.THE POWER TRAIN AND THE RUNNING GEAR
Function of engine and power train
Components of power train; propeller shaft, universal joints, differential and rear axles.
Components of running gear system; brakes, steering system, wheels and tires, frame and
suspension, system which includes the springs, shackles, shock absorbers, stabilizer,
radius rods and balances and guide questions.
B.. THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
Purposes of the clutch, structure and parts, operation of the clutch assembly, types of
clutch, clutch trouble shooting, clutch servicing and guide questions.
C TRANSMISSION
Duties of transmission, types of transmission, structure and parts of a conventional
transmission, operation of the conventional three-speed transmission, 4- speed

transmission, transmission troubles, transmission disassembly, inspection and reassembly and guide questions.
D. DRIVE LINES
Components of Drive Lines; Propeller shafts design and construction, universal and
cross-joints, types of universal joints or cross joints, types of drive and drive lines service
and guide questions.
E. DIFFERENTIALS AND REAR AXLES
Meaning and importance of differential, parts, construction and operation, axles, types of
axles, differential and rear axle trouble shooting, differential servicing and guide
questions.
F. SPRINGS AND SUSPENSION SYSTEMS
Meaning and importance of springs, types of springs, torsion bars, shock absorbers, front
and independent suspension systems, solid axle front suspension and guide questions.
G. FRONT WHEEL SYSTEMS AND ALIGNMENT
Front wheel assemblies, wheel alignment and wheel alignment angles, suspension and
alignment angles, tires and tire service suspension and alignment service, trouble
shooting inspection, replacement and adjustment procedures and guide questions.
H. STEERING SYSTEM
Purposes of the steering system, steering gears, types of steering gears, steering linkage,
power steering, steering system trouble shooting, steering system service and adjustments
and guide questions.
I. BRAKE SYSTEMS
Principles of friction, purposes of brakes, types of brakes; mechanical, electric,
hydraulic. Components of the hydraulic brake system. Operation of hydraulic brakes,
self adjusting brakes, disk brakes, types of power brakes, trouble shooting , brake
adjustments, flushing and bleeding, the hydraulic brake system, air brake system, trouble
shooting and guide questions.
