Over 2,000 orphans identified
December 6, 2014
During the regular Ebola press briefing at the Ministry of Information, Andrew G. Tehmeh,
Deputy Minister for Administration, Ministry of Gender and Social Welfare, declared that the
government of Liberia has discovered the identities of over 2,000 orphans who lost their parents
from Ebola. The government is looking for homes for the children and funding from grants and
other supports.
I have not heard of this specific story in the U.S. seeing as how it concerns people of Liberia.
However, I have been exposed to the broader news of the Ebola outbreak in Africa.
Facts
Institutionalizing the process of
rehabilitation would be the last resort;
something he said is still far from the
initial plan (New Democrat).
2,081 orphans have been
found, even though the data is
changing rapidly.
The government will be giving
grants and other support options to the
families hosting the orphans.

Commentary
My heart aches for the victims of this crisis-especially the children. I am happy that the
Liberian government is attempting to help
their people and address their local issues. I
do wish that the U.S. would devote some
effort in assisting the Liberians, too.

CAN-2015 Final Ghana-Ivory Coast statements
February 8, 2015
Yaya Tour (midfielder and captain of the Ivory Coast) stated how it was a different experience
winning for the country instead of the club team. He said it was enthralling to win with the
national team as a captain. Herv Renard (coach of Ivory Coast) said he was proud of his team
and that he appreciates the work and perseverance they put into their sport.
I have not heard of this specific story in the U.S. seeing as how it is localized in the Ivory Coast.
It also includes specific opinions of the Ivorians further limiting its spread.
Facts
Ivory Coast won against Ghana
in national soccer tournament game.
All Ivorians were proud and
celebratory.
The game had gone to penalty
kicks where the Ivorians won.

Commentary
Sounds like a good game, especially since it
went to P.Ks. I think it is nice that the Ivorians
had a little pride to hold onto for a while.
After hearing the captains and coachs
remarks about their journey to get here, I hold
a little empathy for their small but mighty
win.

Seychelles: Le Matinal
Beach Belle Mare among the ten best in Africa
February 8, 2015
Beach Belle Mare located in the east was fourth among the most beautiful beaches of Africa
according to the ranking of Africa Ranking for the 10 best beaches in Africa (Le Matinal). Its
tranquility and surroundings of breathtaking woodlands were the deciding factors.
I have not heard of this specific story in the U.S. seeing as how it is about something considered
insignificant to Americans at least because it is in Africa.

Facts
Voted fourth in best beaches in
Africa.
Said to be tranquil and
breathtaking.

Commentary
I think I chose this article because I envy this
kind of landscape since I am nowhere near it.
It think its funny how its so beautiful in the
middle of nowhere.

Books launching ceremony conducts
February 8, 2015
An educational book Electronics and Technology written in English by Eng. Semere Habte
and Menfek by Mr. Haile Gebrehiwot launched on 6 February (Ministry of Information).
Gebrehiwot gave a speech about his book that depicts the living conduction of the society in
general and that of heroic feat of the Eritrean heroes in particular.
I have not heard of this specific story in the U.S. seeing as how the book was not published in the
U.S. and hasnt received much international publicity.
Facts
Electronics and Technology
was written in English by Eng. Semere
Habte.
Menefek was written by Mr.
Haile Gebrehiwot
Gebrehiwot gave a speech
about his book.

Commentary
The book sounds really quite boring just as
the article was. I would love to know why this
specific story gained such publicity that the
Ministry of Information would publish it. I
can see how Menefek relates to the Eritrean
citizens, though. What book could I associate
this to in the U.S?

Seychelles: Nation
Vijay International School to start teaching A-Levels
February 7, 2015
The Vijay International School on Praslin (VISP) has announced that it intends to start teaching
Advanced Levels in September this year. Following the successful introduction of IGCSE
courses and a successful inspection by Cambridge International Examinations, the school's
Board of Governors has taken the historic decision to offer A-Levels on Praslin for the first time
(Nation). The Advanced Levels now being introduced should open some doors of opportunity for
the students at Vijay. The school plans on opening specific A-Level areas of learning for the
students as well.
I have not heard of this specific story in the U.S. seeing as how it concerns the students of Vijay
International School. Yes, it is an international school, but coming from the U.S, I dont think of
A-Level learning as a big deal.

Commentary
I understand that this is a big deal for the
students and locals, but since this idea has
been readily in the U.S. for so long, I feel
almost spoiled. Our advancements here that
we take for granted are more than some
people around the world could ever imagine.
