Work of the Brain

It is a very interesting fact that humans brain is responsible for all the
physiological processes that keep us alive (breathing, swallowing, thinking,
realizing, coordinating, learning and etc.). As for me, during my learning I have
never faced difficulties in learning but having become a qualified teacher I got to
know that all individuals learn in different learning ways and his own pace. I know
my own learning style and it is necessary for me to use a visual support. Another
way of my own learning is movement during getting the information. For instance,
when I needed to learn something by heart, I had to walk, move and speak loudly
to listen to myself. This method is called TPR (Total Physical Response Method of
teaching). I am totally confident that all the teachers should know pupils learning
styles and preferences.
A well-known statement is that there are two hemispheres, left and right.
These hemispheres have different specialties. Curiously, the left hemisphere is
largely responsible for controlling the right side of the body, and vise verse
(Byrnes, 2001; Roberts &Kraft, 1987). Having analyzed and become familiar with
functions of our brain, I realized that I have a more dominated right hemisphere
because I succeed in visual and spatial processing. I am a teacher of a foreign
language and I was learning a target language for about five years. I draw tables,
pictures, symbols and figures in my mind because images helped me to remember
and activate my active knowledge.
Another peculiarity of the brain is its capability to remember the information
and keep it for a long or short period of time. There is a parallel between human
processing and computer processing at least metaphorically. These two systems
have much in common and a lot of similar functions. Humans brain receives
information, stores it in memory, and retrieves it as necessary (Learning Theories
and Instructions, 2011).

There is another term that is called active information that includes

information entering the information processing system and information that has
been stored in memory (Baddeley, 1998). This knowledge is focusing in the WM
(working memory) and each rehearsal allows information to be maintained in an
active state (Anderson, 1990). Doubtlessly, only a limited number of memory
structures can be active at a given time. Attention is another necessary prerequisite
of learning. In a learning process, a child need to distinguish letters, sounds, and
stresses, rhythmical patens and structures. Students should also distinguish the
teachers voice, his instructions and carefully attend to each step in the leaning
process. If a student does not possess these capacities it signifies hyperactivity,
learning disabilities, and intelligence. Each teacher can focus on the students gaps
and peculiarities. As it is written, teachers can spot attentive students by noting
their eyes, their ability to work on cue (after directions are completed), and
physical signs (handwriting) indicating they are engaged in work (Good & Brophy,
1984). I am confidently sure that teachers are able to promote students attention to
relevant material through the design of the classroom activity.
To sum up, I would like to mention that brain plays a great role in humans
being to maintain and activate features of processes that help individuals survive,
achieve goals and evolve.
