GMOs
GMOs are genetically modified food. People have all varieties of opinions about GMOs.
A survey was occupied about labeling GMOs and more than 70 percent of Americans say they
dont want genetically modified organisms in their food (Consumer Reports National Research
Center 1). Also, 61 other countries have labeled genetically modified foods (right to know 1).
Do genetically engineered foods pose a risk to human health?" Well, GMOs may or may not
spread allergies. Also GMOs are antibiotic resistance. AAEM states, Multiple animal studies
show significant immune dysregulation, (Genetically Modified Foods 1) Which in fact
increases cytokines. Its a health risk for the public if they have asthma, allergy, and
inflammation, and etc. Well people are rebellious for not labeling GMOs because they have the
right to know what they are consuming.
Therefore, GMOs are good and also can be bad, but its your opinion whether to like
GMOs or not. Some advantages to GMOs are is that GMOs have a high nutrition level. Also, the
crops are naturally protected from diseases. GMOs are also chemically opposition and they are
resistance form plant diseases. People say that GMOs are ruining nature and the environment.
Correspondingly, another pro of GMOs is that herbicides can then be used without people having
to worry about weeds in the long run.
Furthermore, GMOs are pest resistance which means that the crops will not be devastated
by pests. Some farmers disagree with prop 37 (labeling GMOs 1) but farmers made an additional

$10 billion in 2007 from planting GMOs (Hamel, Gregory 1). Labeled GMOs help people
understand how much nutrition there is in that piece of food. Labeling GMO food is a modern
way to label nutrition levels.
Moreover, GMOs dont just have compensations they also have cons. Some detriments
are that the genetically modified foods are global threat to humanitys food supply. Likewise, it
will make the government lose a lot of money. Some farmers dont want prop 37 because it will
lower their manufacturing. Similarly, one disadvantage to prop 37 is that the foods wont really
taste that natural. But one advantage of GMOs is that it contains a lot of protein.
Speaking of protein, protein synthesis is a process when cells get together and construct a
protein. DNA and RNA are in this process. Its also the process when the double helix splits. It
starts in the nucleus and DNA turns into an mRNA. Thats where transcription works. Then it
leaves the nucleus and goes in the rough E.R so it can link in with amino acids. The protein turns
into tRNA and thats how translation is made. Thats how protein synthesis occurs. Switching
over to genetic engineering, we ask our selfs, what is the process of one popular method of
genetic engineering? First, there are three main methods to genetic engineering. One popular
method is the vector method. The victor method starts off with viruses are being inserted in the
host cell. After that it will start replicating itself by using the hosts genetic information. Another
popular method is called biolistic method or gene gun. First step is that the required genes are
inserted in the gun which is then triggered to the host cell. After that the traits and characteristics
will be shown (Amna Adnan 1).
To conclude, labeled GMOs are still a fight today whether to label them or not. 1 label on
genetically modified foods costs less than a dime. There are polls and surveys everywhere
wanting your opinion on prop 37 and GMOs. Society can learn more about these GMOs on the

internet and just by watching TV. People are everyday are figuring this out and are declaring
their opinion. All these information about protein synthesis and genetic engineering can help the
population understand the topic. Some people are just neutral, not on either side. All this
information about genetically modified foods can help the society decide whether they want
GMOs or not. Also it can help the individuals decide if they want labeled GMO foods or not.
There are all kinds of ways to communicate to anyone about your opinion. Now its your time to
enlighten people about your opinion and fight for your opinion.
