Lesson: Future perfect simple

Materials: A2 sized game paper, white board, PowerPoint presentation and markers.

Objectives:
Intermediate level students are able to do the following:
1. Use to the future perfect simple tense effectively in speech and
writing.
2. Understand the grammatical structure and rules applied to create
future perfect tense statements.
3. Have a clear understanding of the point in timeline where the
future perfect simple belongs.
4. Talking about future events using the future perfect simple.

Anticipated problems for Teacher:


1. T may find it difficult to instil the grammatical concept of the future perfect
simple because its structure is complicated and many rules apply.
Solution: Teacher will introduce the concept by breaking down the structure to
ensure that Ss follow through with the T.
Anticipated problems for Students:
1. Ss may have trouble understanding the order of the grammatical structure.
Solution: T will break down the structure into categories and present it in broken
bits for the Ss so that they can easily pick up on the order and structure of the
past perfect continuous.

Teacher Activity
T will divide Ss into groups of three and ask then to write down three points about the future tense.
It could include the following:
Example:
1. Definition of the future tense.
2. Future tense statements.
3. The grammatical structure of the future tense.
Ss will have seven minutes to complete the task.
Once the Ss have written the points, T will choose 2 groups to read what they have written as points.
T will create a brainstorm chart on the board and write down the Ss ideas there and conclude that future tense is about things
that will take place.
T will write finally introduce the Ss to the future perfect simple.
T will write an example of it on the white board: I will have walked to the mall by then.
T will divide the class into 4 groups and inform Ss that they will be playing a board game.
T will provide the game pieces for each Ss and also a dice for each group.
Ss will receive an A2 sized sheet as a board game that will be provided by the T.

T will instruct the Ss to do the following:


Ss will be required to use the dice to take turns. Once Ss land on a box, Ss will be required to turn the scrambled statement
written in the box into a future perfect simple statement.
First one to reach the end of the boxes will win the game.
T will monitor the Ss throughout the game.
T will introduce the Ss to the future perfect tense by writing the definition on the white board.
Future perfect tense is used to define something that will take place in the future before another event begins.
I.e. I will have walked home before sunset.
T will present the grammatical structure of future perfect simple on a PowerPoint slide.

T will instruct the Ss to form pairs of two and write a paragraph about the future and what will take place 100 years from
now. Ss will be required to use the future perfect simple tense while writing.
I.e. Everyone will have learned how to time travel.
Ss will have 10 minutes to write the paragraph. Once they will finish the paragraph, Ss will be required to read he paragraph
in front of the class.
T will ask ICQs to ensure if the students understand the instructions:
What is the activity about?
Which tense will the paragraph be written in?
