GLOBAL PEACE COMMITTEE

BASIC PRINCIPLES
1. The world must be viewed as it presents itself now, in 2015: based in
technology, with instant communication, shrinking resources, and
increasing conflict and brutality - which screams out an insistent,
deafeningly loud, yet unheard call for globally-united cooperation.
2. There exist methods of settling disputes between tribes, communities,
groups, regions, and nations that are non-abusive, non-violent, and
non-lethal. Past injustices between groups or nations can be resolved
and scores can be settled through means that are respectful of
humanity.
3. The United States must re-examine the shifting and ever-more
complex meaning of Leadership.
4. The U.S. and other world powers have based much of their actions in
reactivity to world events, rather than placing more emphasis on proactivity - pre-empt war by initiating actions (provide resources,
generate jobs, create peace-based organizations, etc.).
5. Human beings - especially the young - need to experience a feeling of
importance and a sense of belonging to a welcoming family or group.
It is possible - on a global level - to provide options to urban gangs
and terrorist cells, by creating a network of welcoming groups that are
culture-specific, yet based in a common ethos that is constructive,
creative, imaginative, engaging, and peaceful.
6. There exist abundant human resources in professions of mental
health, social services, related fields, and people the world over in
terms of knowledge, experience, insight, and passion that can address
world conflicts with reasoned, compassionate, and effective voices.
7. There exist shining examples throughout history - and currently of women and men who have advocated, protested, sacrificed, and
spoken and written for the cause of bringing about non-violent change
through reason, compassion, and love. We need to do more than
celebrate these leaders. We need to learn and put to use their
principles of peace-making.
8. It is an abdication of responsibility not to make determined efforts to
have the voices of our community heard.
9. Providing respect, understanding, and compassion have great power
to influence people.
10. There is great urgency to this matter: Weve all seen enough, no need
to wait any longer. Take action now. Spread the word!
