Lesson
Purpose:
This
lesson
is
designed
to
demonstrate
to
students
the
ways
in
which
we
can
encourage
young
children
to
try
and
eat
a
variety
of
new
and
nutritious
foods.
It
is
designed
to
teach
students
how
to
incorporate
fun
and
positive
behavior
at
meal
and
snack
times
for
young
children.
It
is
designed
to
assist
students
in
making
appropriate
food
and
snack
choices
when
caring
for
young
children.
It
teaches
both
students
and
young
children
that
nutritious
snacks
can
be
both
fun
and
healthy
and
that
living
a
health
style
starts
at
a
young
age.
Student
Outcomes:
Students
will
be
able
to
describe
and
model
positive
food
experiences
for
children.

To
familiarize
students
with
ways
that
they
can
encourage
positive
food
behavior,
making
meal/snack
times
fun,
and
instill
healthy
eating
in
young
children.
Familiarize
students
with
simple
food/snack
preparation
techniques.
Authentic
Student
Assessment:
Subjective
assessment
will
be
used
during
the
PowerPoint
presentation.
Students
will
have
the
opportunity
to
respond
to,
questions,
and
put
forth
comments
during
this
portion
of
the
lesson.
This
will
demonstrate
understanding
of
the
topic.
Students
will
show
their
understanding
and
ability
to
follow
directions
and
make
a
healthy
and
fun
snack
for
children
during
the
spider
making
portion
of
the
lesson.
Students
will
be
assessed
for
participation
through
teacher
circulation
and
observation
during
the
spider
making
activity.
Prior
Knowledge:
Students
will
have
some
familiarity
of
basic
food
preparation
from
Foods
and
Nutrition
8.
This
includes
knowledge
of
food
safety
and
techniques.
Students
have
already
been
exposed
to
appropriate
foods
for
ages
previously
in
this
course.
Lesson:
1. Welcome
students
to
the
class.
2. Show
PowerPoint
presentation
created
related
to
topic.
Familiarize
students
with
the
concept
of
making
meal/snack
time
a
pleasant
experience.
Ask
students
to
share
their
own
meal
experiences
when
they
were
children.
3. Show
and
discuss
ideas
for
fun
snacks
and
meals
in
PowerPoint.
4. Spider
Snack
Activity:
Have
students
follow
directions
in
PowerPoint
Presentation.
Pass
out
supplies
for
each
student.
Have
students
make
and
enjoy
the
snack
while
teacher
circulations
to
answer
questions
and
observe
that
students
have
grasped
concept
and
are
following
directions.

make

for
the

or
have
the

make
it
with
you.
Remind
students
that
children
need
to
be
supervised
at
all
times
during
meals
and
snacks.
