Anti-A Serum
Place approximately 2 drops of Mr. Smiths blood in the A and B wells in Slide 1.
Place approximately 2 drops of Mr. Joness blood in the A and B wells in Slide 2.
Place approximately 2 drops of Mr. Greens blood in the A and B wells in Slide 3.
Place approximately 2 drops of Ms. Browns blood in the A and B wells in Slide 4.
Place approximately 2 drops of the simulated anti-A serum in each A well on the four
slides.
7. Place approximately 2 drops of the simulated anti-B serum in each B well on the
four slides.
8. Using a toothpick, stir each well for 30 seconds. Use a clean toothpick each time.
To avoid splattering the simulated blood, do not press too hard on the typing tray.
Place your slide on a piece of paper. This will make it easier to see the results.
9. Observe each slide and record your observations in Table 1 on the following page.
To confirm agglutination try reading text through the mixed sample. If you cannot
read the text, assume you have a positive agglutination reaction. In the Anti-A and
Anti-B columns of the table indicate either Agglutination or No Agglutination. In the
Blood Type column, predict the blood type of each individual based on the information
and your notes.
10. Clean up your station. After you find your results, you can wash the materials down
the sink using water and make sure you clean out the slide very well. Fill out the
Patient Report below and answer the questions. Please pass in this lab to be
marked.
