Bronchitis

Bronchitis is inflammation of
the large airways that branch
off the trachea
(bronchi),usually caused by
infection but sometimes
caused by irritation from a
gas or particle
Acute:1-3 weeks
Chronic: months or years

Sign and symptoms


Cough
Production of mucus (sputum), which
can be clear, white, yellowish-gray or
green in color
Fatigue
Slight fever and chills
Chest discomfort

Causes
Viral infection
Smoking
Air pollution or toxic gases

Diagnosis
Physical examination:wheezing
sound,ronchi and prolonged expiration
Chest xray: acute:increase interstitial
shadowing

Additional anamnesis
History of previous disease
Characteristic of chest pain
Treatment
Protussive/antitussive therapy
Bronchodilators
Antibiotics ( caused by bacterial
infections)
