It is with honor and excitement that I write this letter of promise for Luisa Lora. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to get to know Luisa both as a professional, peer, and friend throughout our time together in the Student Development Administration program. It is in no way a surprise to me that Luisa and I have remained so close since first meeting. Upon meeting Luisa, it was obvious that she brings an unmatchable honesty, genuineness, and energy to the field of Student Affairs. Luisa has repeatedly showcased her dedication and ability to authentically work with students regardless of the context. Luisa and I held similar Graduate Internships in the International Student Center (ISC). In her respective role, I had the pleasure of supporting Luisa in many student-centered programs. However, the apex of her performance was the organization of the ISCs International Dinner for over 400 guests ranging from students, families, staff, faculty, and executive leadership. Despite never seeing the International Dinner prior to her employment by the ISC, Luisas exemplary leadership displayed clear, concise communication, excellent organizational skills, and a strong ability to navigate ambiguity. Under Luisas supervision and leadership, several committees of four to six students collaborated on various components of the dinner to meet strict deadlines throughout the planning process. Through a combination of resourcefulness and determination to overcome adversity, Luisa delivered a remarkable program showcasing several cultural performances and cuisines from around the world. Additionally, I was impressed with Luisas ability to translate course content, specifically, Astins (1984) Theory of Involvement, into practice so quickly after entering the program. Luisa spearheaded the ISCs i-Buddy mentorship program designed to introduce international students to domestic students. Under her guidance, the program quickly became a resource for international students transitioning into Seattle University. I was excited for Luisa when she obtained a position as a Graduate Residence Hall Director at Cornish College of the Arts. It is apparent Luisas passion in working with students revolves heavily around Residence Life and while I have not worked with Luisa in this capacity, I have no doubt that her professional demeanor makes her an ideal candidate for RA supervision and issues relating to conduct. I have confidence in Luisas ability to navigate any professional environment she finds herself in and know first hand that she is dedicated to fostering meaningful relationships with those who are fortunate enough to work alongside her. I am forever grateful for Luisas friendship and guidance throughout the SDA program. Luisas innate ability to listen to others, provide constructive feedback, and be fully present in conversations warrants my upmost respect. Luisas dedication to the field is unwavering, and I have no doubt she will positively impact countless students lives.
