PROFESSIONAL MISSION

Professional Mission Statement

I strive to combine classroom and out-of-classroom learning so that students gain a wellrounded experience of leadership as an art and skill. Through the integration of leadership theory,
such as Hersey and Blanchard Situational Leadership model, students can gain foundational
aptitude and confidence in their leadership abilities. The integration of learning through meaning
making is not only important for students to achieve but for me to achieve as a professional
(Merriam et. al, 2007). I am a lifelong learner and seek to stay true to the driving factors that
promote happiness with my professional work and personal life (Merriam et. al, 2007).
One way I can do this is through collaboration. I strive to promote collaborative learning
at the undergraduate and graduate levels to encourage diversity and a sense of purpose resulting
in student persistence. Collaboration with students, peers, and supervisors energizes me to seek
continued professional learning and development while enabling others to act (Kouzes & Posner,
1987).
