What is Tecnoacademia?

Tecnoacademia is a high-impact education intervention for students in the 8th

and 9th grades that discovers talents and generates abilities in science,
technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through the development of
learning projects in five areas:
Basic Sciences
Engineering and Robotics
Nanotechnology
Biotechnology
Computer programming and Virtual technologies
Discovering talents, equalizing opportunities
Tecnoacademia functions in low-income neighborhoods of the main cities in
Colombia, where education quality is low and social problems such as school
dropout rates, teen pregnancy, drug-use, or violence are high. By giving
students a safe place to go after school where they become interested in STEM
and can start a career in these areas, Tecnoacademia generates equality of
opportunities in Colombia and can close social and cognitive gaps among the
student population.
Developing skills for the 21st century
Students in Tecnoacademia learn science and mathematics through applied
projects, and develop non-cognitive abilities that will enable them to succeed in
their professional and adult lives such as:

Adaptability

Interpersonal communication

Problem solving

Self-management and self-development

Systemic thinking

Competition and new experiences for students are key to develop this type of
skills. Tecnoacademia is always looking for opportunities with partners in
Colombia and abroad for students to travel and participate in competitions,
tournaments, or education camps, as well as other types of support.
Where we are
There are nine Tecnoacademias throughout Colombia (Cazuca, Medellin, Cali,
Bucaramanga, Pereira, Ibagu, Tquerres, Manizales, Neiva) with more than
10,000 students per year.
