News from Ms.

Bishops
Kindergarten Class
Its March! Wow!
We are already in the
third month of 2015! Time
is flying by! This week, our
school is being visited from
educators around the world
to learn about the Leader in
Me program we have here at
Paideia. All of the Kinder
scholars will be putting on a
short presentation this
Tuesday for our special
guests! Also, scholars will
have Picture Day this
Wednesday!
Next week, scholars will
have their 3rd Quarter celebration on Friday, March 13.
Families are invited to join
us any time from 9am12pm
in order to accompany your
scholar around the school
and see all of the hard work
they have been doing! After
the celebration, scholars will

be released from school at

12pm!
Yearbooks are on sale
until March 31! Please fill
out and return the form that
was sent home a few weeks
ago, or go online to
ybpay.lifetouch.com and use
the ID code 11524915 to
order your scholars yearbook!
Yearbooks will be
ready by mid May.
Our fieldtrip to the Farm
on Friday, April 10, has been
finalized! The cost for each
scholar will be $16. This
price includes a sack lunch,
entrance to the Farm, and
the bus fee. I will need to
collect all of the money by
Thursday, 4/2 (cash only). I
have already had a couple
parents interested in being
chaperones for the trip, and

Week 9
I will need about three more
family members willing to
help supervise a small group
of scholars! If you are interested, please contact me as
soon as possible! Thanks!
If you take a look at this
weeks homework sheet, you
will notice that the reading
homework asks scholars to
read from an assigned workbook page. Each night, I will
have scholars bring home a
new reading sheet that I
would like you to help them
read.
These sheets align
with our workbooks, and include many of our spelling
words! Thank you for helping
your scholar improve their
reading skills!

The Seven Habits Synergize!

The scholars know that when they synergize, they work together to achieve more.
Now that scholars understand simple addition, it is a shock for them to hear the
phrase, 1+1=3 What scholars are beginning to understand is that solutions where
both sides are taken into account and attempt to improve both parties are often
the best kinds of resolutions! They may not be obvious, like 1+1=2, but usually end
up being better! We will be working on this idea in class this week!

Coming Up...
Scholars are finishing up their Unit 7 workbooks, and will be ready for Unit 8 next week! We are
also finishing up another reader in class; these Kinder
scholars are really reading up a storm in here!
In math, scholars are continuing to improve
their addition skills, using number 0-10. We are also
doing timed math tests every day, in order to improve
the speed at which we solve simple addition problems!
After Spring Break, we will begin subtraction!
We began a unit on Presidents and American
Symbols in week 7, and we will be finishing that unit
this week. Scholars are learning about our presidents,
our government, and national monuments!

Reading to Your Scholar

I encountered a great article that expresses how important reading to and with your child is. The article also gives
some excellent tips on how to effectively read with your child at home. Numerous studies have shown that reading to your
child is one of the best ways to prepare them for school by helping to stimulate brain development, build language, and teach
social-emotional skills. Below, I summarized a few tips from the article.

Read stories over and over. It allows for children to ask more questions and think deeper about a concept or idea.
Explicitly teach vocabulary words. Go over words that your child isnt familiar with. Next time they see the word, they
will better understand!

Engage in conversation about the story before and after reading. Let your child make predictions, talk about how the
story made them feel, or how they connected to the story or characters personally.

Help your child to relate a story to their own experiences. This will help them increase their comprehension and expand
their knowledge about words and the world.
