Warm-up: Find Someone Who (15 minutes) Purpose: To give students a chance to review
the simple future.
Procedure: Students will be given a half sheet of paper with a phrase and a blank, for example:
1. go to see a movie tomorrow

_________________ students will review how to ask a

future questions like Will you go to see a movie tomorrow or Are you going to go see a
movie tomorrow? They must write the name of their peer who answers, Yes, I will. They
cannot write the name of someone who says No, I wont/will not/Im not going to. When all
the students are finished, the teacher will ask who said Yes and follow-up questions.
Transition: Teacher will ask what we are learning about (future) and ask if students think about
their futures 50 years from now? Teacher will ask how many people want grandchildren?
Teacher will say: Then youll need to get married and have kids, first! So you need to find a
partner. So you need to go on some dates to find the right person!
Activity 1: Introduction to future perfect (25 minutes) Purpose: To introduce future perfect
form and usage as well as by ______, by the time and when.
Procedure:
-

Teacher will ask and write on the board, You are going on a date or meeting your future
partner for the first time, what do you need to do to get ready?

Students will shout out ideas from their culture or experience and the teacher will write
them all down. Some examples could include rent a car, take a shower, buy
flowers, put on perfume/cologne, buy a nice dress.

The teacher will say, Soby 8:00 p.m. I will have showered. Teacher will then ask for
another example such as By the time I go on my date, I will have put on perfume.
Finally, the teacher will ask for another example and write When I go on my date, I will
have (already) bought flowers. The teacher will mark these on the time line before 8:00
p.m. when the dates starts showing that future perfect is used to talk about two events in
the future, one happening before the other.

Teacher will ask the students what the form is to elicit Subject + will + have + verb 3
(past participle) and write this on the board.

Transition: Now that youve met your future partner, lets talk about your future 5, 10, 20, 50
years from now!

usage.

time and when. They will be encouraged to be creative.

After groups are finished they will switch their 8 sentences with another group and check
each others sentences for errors, then return them.

Now each person in each group will be given a blank sheet paper. The teacher will teach
students how to fold an origami fortune teller.

Students will write the words red, blue, green and yellow on the outside, 1-8 in the
