Pressure Relief Valves.
These valves are used to regulate the amount of pressure in a system. They
open when the pressure gets too high and close when the pressure drops.
The relief pressure limit is normally pre-set. Excess pressure is released back
into a holding tank. They can not be used as a Safety Valve. Pressure Relief
Valves are normally used on liquid systems. They protect equipment such as
pressure vessels, heat exchangers and compressors. (see figure 21).
