When the arabs used to travel for hajj, they would put a
specific type of necklace in the neck of the animal so it was
showed that this animal was going for sacrifice.
Even now it is permissble to put a particular mark on it (on
the neck) to show it is going for sacrifice.
And do not violate the sanctity to those who are
going to the sacred house...
Do not violate the safety for those people.
Aameen (Aamm) - Hamza Meem Meem - To intend, To go
toward
They are going there to seek the bounty and gain his
pleasure...
The reason why they are going for Hajj is for Allah swt's
benefit of this Dunya and as well as Akhira. They don't just
go to seek pleasures of the Akhira, but also for this world.
They also seek the pleasure of Allah swt.
And when you have put off your Ihram...
Halaltum- Ha Laam Laam - To untie
When the restrictions of Ihram are off of you then you can
hunt.
Fastawdu - Sawd Ya Daal - Hunt
This doesn't mean that when a person takes off Ihram, he
HAS to hunt, this is just a permission. Example: Surah Juma
Ayah 10
And let not the hatred of some people in (once) stopping you
from Al-Masjid-Al-Harm (at Makkah)...
Yajrimannakum - Jeem Ra Meem - To pick fruit from the tree
It should make you offense the enmity of people.
Shaneaka - Sheen Noon Hamza - One who keeps hidden
hatred in the heart for Allah

And you all mutually co-operate...


Ta'awanu - Ayn Waw Noon - Help (any type)
Help another another
On righteousness and staying away from Haram...
Birr - All types of Good
Do what is right and avoid the Haram.
Do not co-operate with one another in sin and
trangression...
Do not help one another in doing bad.
Allah swt is severe in taking retrebution...
Allah swt will punish those who go against his commands.
We learn:
When a person is in Hajj, he must not violate the sanctity of
the places, time and rituals.. He must be very respectful to
everyone and everything over there. (See: Surah Hajj Ayah
12)
Help one another in good, do not help one another in bad
Have Taqwa of Allah swt at alll times
Follow the commands of Allah swt as they are told
Ayah 3
Prohibited to you are dead animals (to eat)...
Eating these animals are prohibited to you by Allah swt.
In the first ayah we were told that all animals are permissible
for you to eat except what is recited to you.
Al Mayta - Meem Ya Ta - A animal which dies a natural death
or accident
Forbidden Animals in Islam

1. Dead animals (Those animals who died from natural


death)
The Prophet S.A.W said: 2 Dead animals are allowed for us
and 2 types of blood.. 2 Dead Animals - Fish, Locust (You

don't slaughter these) 2 Blood: Liver & Speen


And blood...
2. Blood - You cannot drink or collect the blood for cooking..
Espacially the flowing blood
And the flesh of the swine...
3. The flesh of swine - The entire pig is unlawful for us.
And that on which Allah swt's name has not been
mentioned while slaughtering...
And that which was offered up other than Allah swt.
Ihlaal - To pronounce the name of whom the animal is being
dedicated to
4. Anything on which the name of Allah swt wasn't
pronounced
And one who is strangled to death...
Munkhaniqah - Kha Noon Qaaf - To choke, That which
suffocates to death
That animal which is chocked to death. They are 2 possibles
of it to be chocked: 1. The animal was trying to pull to
release but then it chokes to death 2. Somebody else
strangling the animal to death
5. Animal strangled to death
Or by a violent blow...
Mawqudha - Waw Qaaf Dhaw - One who is injured by a
violent blow and dies, One who is beated to death, Animal
which has been killed by striking (of stone, bullet, stick, etc)
If the animal is hit by something and it dies, it is not
permissble for you to eat.

And the one that dies by a fall.
Mutaradiyyah - Ra Daal Ya - To perish, To be destroyed, Fall
and perish

7. Animal that falls and die


Or by the goring of horns...
Natiha - Noon Taw Ha - Hits the other with his horn
8. Animal that dies by being gored by the horn of the other
And that which has been (partly) eaten by a wild
animal, unless you are able to slaughter it before it
dies...
For example: A lion caught a deer (deer is halal), a lion sees
your car coming and runs away, if you see the deer and you
slaughter it, it is halal for you. If you are not able to
slaughter it, it will not be halal.
Sabu' - Seen Ba Ayn - Seven (number of strength), To kill,
Beast of prey
Dhakkaytum - Dhaal Kaaf Ya - To make it fit for eating
Illa is a exception for all of the animal that have been
mentioned (but not pig).
How do you know if the animal is still alive? 1. The blood that
is coming out of the body is warm 2. The animal is moving
9. That animal which has been killed by a wild animal
And that which was sacrificed upon the stone alters...
Nusub (Pl of Nusaab) - Noon Sawd Ba - An idol that has been
fixed for the purpose of worship, A stone alter (The
Mushrikeen would put food on the table for the idol)
10. That animal which has been slaughtered for the sake of
idol to put on the stone alter (dedicating the animal for the
idol)
And that you seek to divide through the arrows...
You divide the meat of the animal with arrows.
Tastaqsimu - Qaaf Seen Meem - To divide, Fate --Understood
in 2 ways - 1. You seek disturbution/division 2. You seek your
fate (fortune telling)
This was used for gambling. Do not use arrows to seek your

fate.
That is sin...
Engaging or eating any of the above is sin.
Gambling is a sin..It is not fair.
Today, those people who have disbelieved have
despaired from your religion.
Ya esa - Ya Hamza Seen - To despair
They have given up hope that you will ever leave your
religion. Why? Because you have clear guideline to what is
halal and haram...You are a different people now. They have
given up hope that you will come back to the Mushrikeen's
religion.
So don't fear them...
Don't fear that they might mock you or something..Rather...
Fear me (Allah swt)...
Rather, fear Allah swt.
Khashya - Fear out of greatness
Today, I have perfected your religion for you...
Akmaltu - Kaaf Meem Laam - To perfect something, To
complete something that has already been started
Today, the religion has been completed to you..The process
that begun in Makkah 23 years ago, has compelted now. The
purpose of it is now completed. Whatever you were suppose
to be taught has been given to you.
And I have completed my blessing upon you...
Which blessing? The blessing of religion.
AtMamtu - Ta Meem Meem - To complete and perfect
something, Completing a term (a number) of something
Nothing at all has been left out.
And I have chosen Islam as a religion for you...
The religion that has been approved for you is Islam.

Then whoever was forced to eat of that which was


haram not willfully...
Id Turra - Dawd Ra Ra - Someone who is compelled by force
Makhmasa - Kha Meem Sawd - To be of empty stomauch.
Whoever was forced to eat because he was starving (to
death). His belly is totally pushed inside. If a person is that
healthy and he is about to die or hurting is health, then it is
allowed for him to eat.
Mutajaanif - Jeem Noon Fa - To wilfully go to that which is
sinful (intentionally).
Out of extreme hunter he has to eat that which is Haram,
and when he is eating, he is not doing it out of disobedience
and he will not make it a habbit,
then Allah swt is forgiving and merciful to him...
Allah swt will forgive him for that which he has eaten.
Ayah 4
They ask you as to what has been made lawful for
them...
They ask you, what is Halal for them..
Tell them, Permissble for you are all pure/good things
are lawful for you...
All Halal food is Tayyib (pure).
And that which you taught...
Ma A'llamtu - And the hunt of that (animal) which you have
taught
And hunting through birds and beasts of prey that
you train...
Jawarih (pl of Jaarihah) - Jeem Ra Ha - 1. From the word Jarhto Acquire something/to earn something . Limbs 2. Wounds
Mukallibeen - Kaaf Laam Meem - Dog, You as a trainer, You
as a dispatcher

Teaching them out of what Allah swt has taught you...


You have taught the Jawarih from that which Allah has taught
you.
So eat from that which they hold on to upon you...
Amsakna - Meem Seen Kaaf - To hold on to something
Eat of them which they hold for you. Each of the prey that
your hunting animals are holding for you.
It is not lawful for you if your hunting animal is eating it but
only if it is holding it.
And you mention the name of Allah swt upon it...
1. When you release your hunting animal to catch the prey,
at that time as Mukallibeen you should say 'Bismillah'
2. Even when you are eating the animal, at that time you
should say 'Bismillah'
And fear Allah, Indeed Allah swt is swift in taking
account...
Allah swt is very quick in taking Hisaab (account) so
becareful about what you say and what you eat.
We learn:
The greed/desire the Sahabah had for correct knowledge.
Knowledge about Halal and Haram.
Say Allah swt's name before doing everything and anything
Whatever Allah swt has made Halal for us in beneficial for us.
Ayah 5
This day, all good foods have been made lawful for
you...
This day: Day of A'rafah.
Surah Maedah is the last surah to be revealed in the Quran,
whatever is halal is considered to be halal is considered halal
and haram is haram.
Good things are lawful are all lawful.

And food of those people who were given the book is


permissible for you...
Ta'aam does not refer to everything that is eaten (such as
fruits and vegetables). It refers to meat. This does not refer
to all meat, it is all meat which is lawful (like meat which is
qualified as Ayah 3). If the people of the book say it is halal,
just accept it because its not nice to ask where they got it for
you. The meat that they slaughter properly by saying Allah
swt's name and the method of slaughter is also proper is
permissble for you.
And your food is lawful for them...
You are allowed to offer your food to them. If you sell them
your meat and take some money in exchange, that money is
a lawful earning. There is nothing wrong in offering your
meat for them. Do not think that halal meat is only for us..
And the chaste women from the believers...
The chaste women among the believers
And the chaste women of those people who were
given the book before you...
They are lawful for you for marriage.
The condition is Muhsanah..Not just any jewish or christian
women..She has to be chaste, a righteous clean women.
The Prophet s.a.w said, the women is married for her deen,
beauty or wealth.. As Muslims, we should go for the deen
one. Select a women who is good in deen.
Muhsinah from Mu'minah is married first. It is also
permissble to marry a jewish or christian Muhsanah.
A Muslim man is allowed to marry a chaste jewish or
christian because he is the Qawwam.. The women is not the
Qawwam.
When you have given them (the women) their dowry
(Mehr)...

When the man benefits the women through the marriage


relationship, he must benefit her too. This starts from the
moment of Nikaah. Even if you marry a christian or jewish
women, you still have to give her dowry. It is possible it is not
in their religion, but it is in your religion.
Ones being chaste...
When you marry these women, you have to be chaste.
Muhsineena - Men also have to be chaste
Once you establish marriage between them, fortify yourself.
If you want to make her halal for yourself, you must have the
Nikaah and give her the Mehr. The purpose of marriage is to
protect yourself.
Not ones who are fornicators...
When you have relationship with these women, you should
not have relationship with these women outside of the
marriage.. Do not commit Zinah with them. The purpose of
marriage is not just to satisfy ones sexual desire but you are
living as a family.
And nor as ones who take secret friends...
Meaning, you o men! do not take these women as secret
friends.
Khidn - Illesite lover who had sexual intercourse
Don't take these women as secret friends..You cannot go
have sexual intercourse with them.
Whoever does Kufr with Imaan...
He says he is a believer but in his actions he rejects.
Then his deeds are finished...
His deeds has been wasted because of the Kufr he has
committed.
And he will be in the hereafter of those who are
loosers...

If he dies in this state, he will be of those people who are


loosers in the Akhira.
We Learn:
The matter of making something halal or haram is for Allah swt to
decide.
The food of the Yahood and the Nasara is permissble for a person
to consume.. Only the Yahood and the Nasara, not other than
them.
There is no harm in eating the food of the people of the book and
offering them our food.
The permission and the annoying Kitaabi Muhsanaat (People of
the book chaste women)
Giving Mehr to the women in order to make her permissble for
oneself.
Obligation of publising the Nikaah
The prohibition of any secret relationship between any non
mehram man and women.
A person who does Kufr with Iman and claims to be Iman, then his
good deeds will be wasted.
