Installing Cambridge Advanced Learners Dictionary 4th Edition

System Requirements

To use Cambridge Advanced Learners Dictionary4th Edition (CALD4) with a PC, you
must have:
350 MHz processor or faster (800 MHz processor recommended)
Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 8
Super VGA 16-bit colour, 800x600 resolution
To use CALD4 on a Mac, you must have:
Mac OSX 10.5-10.8
500 MHz G3 processor or higher (1.2 GHz G4 processor recommended)
For both PC and Mac, you also need:
CD-ROM drive
800 MB free hard disk space
256 MB RAM (512 MB RAM recommended)
sound card with speakers or headphones
a mouse or other pointing device
a microphone if you wish to record yourself speaking.

To install CALD4 on a PC

To install CALD4 on your computer, complete these steps:


1. Turn on your computer.
2. Insert the CD in your CD-ROM drive. Follow the instructions on your screen
as CALD4 installs automatically.
You must be allowed to install software on your computer, i.e. have
Administrator privileges.
If CALD4 does not install automatically, complete these steps:

1. (Windows 8) Use Search to navigate to COMPUTER

(Windows Vista and 7) Click the START button, then click COMPUTER.
(Windows XP) Double click on MY COMPUTER
2. Double click on the file setup.exe.
3. Follow the instructions on your screen.
You should leave the CD in your CD-ROM drive the first time you open CALD4.

To install CALD4 on an Apple Mac using OSX 10.5-10.8


To install CALD4 on your Apple Mac, complete these steps:
1. Turn on your computer.
2. Insert the CD in your CD-ROM drive.
3. Create a folder on your desktop and name it cald4.
4. Double-click on the CD icon on the desktop to open it.
5. Drag the folder called cald4 into the folder you created.
6. The folder is copied across. This may take several minutes.
7. Then drag the folder called data into the folder you created.
CALD4 installation does not require copying of data folder to the folder
on your desktop. However, we recommend that you copy this folder to the

hard drive. This will allow you to use CALD4 without having the CALD4 CDROM in the CD-ROM drive.
8. When copying has finished, double click on the CALD4 icon.
To create a shortcut to CALD4
1. Select the CALD4 icon on the desktop.
2. From the FILE menu, choose Make Alias.
3. Drag the new alias to the launcher.
