Only way to clean up Assembly is to change how it does its business Assemblyman Dean Murray (R,C,I-East Patchogue) today joined Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb and his Assembly Republican colleagues at a press conference calling for immediate reform to make the legislative body more transparent. In the wake of scandal after scandal, Murray feels these changes are crucial in taking power away from corrupt career politicians and returning it to our hardworking residents. "For over 20 years, the Assembly had a speaker who treated the chamber as his own personal fiefdom," said Murray. "Now is the time to ensure that never happens again and return power over our Legislature to the New Yorkers who elected us to serve their interests. This means enacting term limits for legislative leaders. It means shedding light on the inner workings of our government and making committee meetings accessible to the public. And it means ending the legacy of stifling Minority bills simply because the sponsor doesnt have the right party affiliation attached to his or her name. Republicans and Democrats alike agree we must change the rules and make the Assembly the peoples chamber once again. Today should be that day and I call on the Assembly Democrats to join us in making real reform a reality. ***ATTACHED WITH THIS RELEASE IS A PHOTO OF ASSEMBLYMAN DEAN MURRAY (FOURTH FROM LEFT) AT THE PRESS CONFERENCE*** ###
