School/Community Involvement
In my time at Castlebrooke Secondary, I have committed to the school success
vision. One way I have been involved in this is staff development in technology. There
are many different ways technology can be integrated into classrooms, and I am very
eager to learn about them, and try them out. By connecting with technology resource
teachers, as well as being active on twitter and connecting with teachers and
administrators around the world, I have found many new classroom tools, which I have
tried in my classroom and integrated into my teaching practice. In being open to new
technology and technological opportunities, I have also begun to share my
experiences with my peers both within our school as well as outside. Through
presenting at conferences, being active in Castlebrookes Tech Den, holding lunch-andlearns, as well as holding drop-in technology brainstorming sessions, I have, and
continue to help foster a mindset of change, and adaptability in my professional
practice, and helping to navigate myself and my peers in the 21 st century
technological landscape. In addition to professional and staff development, I also
connect with our students and the community through athletics. I am the offensive
coach of the Varsity Football team, and I am currently the head coach of the Boys
Hockey team and assistant coach of the Varsity Girls Softball team. In each of these
coaching experiences, I have used my background in leadership development to help
foster leadership and team building skills in the student athletes that I am involved
with. One of my primary goals in coaching is to instill the idea that the members of
school teams are students first, and athletes second. Athletics are an important part of
learning and are a great tool in relation to Character Education and are an integral
part of how I connect with my students, their parents and the wider community.
