Purpose of Education
Children should be able to receive a great education in a public or private school. The
purpose of education is for children to learn how to read and write. They also learn math,
science, history and how to communicate with others. A childs mind grows while learning and
working with others. They learn how to use their imagination while listening to a story or
playing with other students. As children get older they work better with others which will help
them as they get older. Throughout their school years they will always have to work with other
students in projects. Working with other students helps them learn how to get along with others
which will help them when they go to high school, college and when they enter the work force.
Learning Environment
A learning environment should be safe for all students. A teacher has to make his or her
classroom feel warm and inviting. A student should not fear to attend school because he or she
does not feel comfortable in that environment. The classroom should always be clean and
organized so the students will not get distracted easily. Also, the teacher should know if a student
is being mistreated by other students. A child should be encouraged to participate in classroom
activities working in individual work or in groups. When students work together they teach each
other and help each other become better at writing and in math. Partner and group work must
center on clearly structured tasks. (David and Roger Johnson) In order for groups to work they
have to be in a cooperative learning setting. In lower grade levels having a rug in the center of
the classroom helps students concentrate during instructional time. Furthermore, students art
projects, homework, and other work should be displayed in the classroom for students to see
their own work. This will motivate students to learn and participate more. Having the students
art projects on display makes the room feel welcoming. The children like to show their projects
to each other and classroom guest.

Commitment and Social Justice

Students should be treated equally, there should not be favoritism. In a multicultural
classroom a teacher should tell the students that they are all the same. Teaching the students
about different cultures will help students learn about their classmates. This will help students get
along and students will not feel discriminated. Also, some children have difficulties with reading
and these students should receive the help they need at school. I believe that a resource teacher
should help these students with the subjects where they are having a difficult time. Most students
need more help in language arts whether its reading, grammar, or writing. This should be done
during art time or individual work time.
Curriculum
Teaching is changing throughout the country with the introduction of Common Core
Standards. With Common Core the way of teaching has changed, now students are more
involved. They are still being taught history, math, science, language arts, computer skills, and
physical education but, they are being challenged to think critically and to solve problems in
many different ways. Math and language arts are the main focus of education but we cannot
forget about social science, physical education, art, and science. I believe that students should
have physical education at least three times a week for thirty minutes. We should also have art
time so the student can grow their imagination. Abstract ideas need to be first made concrete
through the use of objects, illustrations, manipulatives, and examples. (Richard Mayer) Math is
a subject that many students do not like and have a difficult time with; I think that using games
and small objects will help the students learn better. Another important thing is to have the

agenda on the board so the students can see what they will be doing during the day. Having the
day planed is easier for the students and the teacher transition from one subject to the next.
Teacher
Teachers who motivate and encourage students have the greatest effect on students. The
teachers who help students with school work and personal issues will always be remembered by
students and be thought of as great teachers. A teacher should enjoy working with kids, be
approachable, creative, and connect with students. This is what makes a great teacher. Teachers
dont only teach what is on the standards, but they go out of their way to help the students
become better. Teachers have different responsibilities and it is not an easy job to be a teacher. In
order to be a good teacher you always have to learn new ways of teaching. Students have
different ways of learning and teachers need to learn how to help students understand the subject
using visual aids, videos, vocabulary and have math and grammar rules in the class. Throughout
high school I had teachers who motivated me to do better because they believed that I could do
better. They encouraged me to continue with my education and they gave me hope.
