3. Before we start, Rachael will provide the class with some

context.
We are presenting the second half of the lesson
today. In the first part of the lesson we would have
checked prior knowledge by getting the students to
brainstorm about landscapes using Padlet. The
students would have discovered that there are seven
types of landscapes; mountain, coastal, riverine,
desert, karst, tropical rainforest and human. We then
would have watched the Youtube video as a class.
Whilst watching the video we would have discussed
what type of landscape the images were portraying.
By the end of the lesson students will be able to
identify the seven different types of landscapes as
well as some iconic landscapes in Australia and the
world. To help students achieve these learning
objectives, they will use Powtoon to create a video of
iconic landscapes

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key

Questions):
1.

Give task instructions:

In this part of the lesson we will be completing
activity 3 - creating a 20 second Powtoon video of
iconic landscapes in Australia and the world.

Group numbers listed on

Weebly

Working in groups of 3, you will be allocated a group

number. The number you get will correspond to the
number on the Weebly site. For example, if you are
group 1 then you are exploring mountain
landscapes. If you are group 2 you are exploring
coastal landscapes.
You have 15 minutes to complete the activity.
2.
3.
4.

Tell the class to get in groups of 3. Allocate group

numbers 1-7.
Monitor the class as they create their Powtoon videos.
After 15 minutes, get the attention of the class. Explain
that in a normal classroom we would have asked for 1 or 2
groups to volunteer to show their Powtoon video to the class.

5.

9.53

We will now finish the lesson with a quiz (5 minutes). In

their groups of 3, ask one student to click on the Kahoot link on
the Weebly. The game pin will appear on the big screen at the
front of the classroom. Type that in and also type your name or
a nickname that will appear on the big screen. Once that is
done take the quiz!

Kahoot quiz

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)

1. Review the seven types of landscapes and some iconic
landscapes.
2. We will now have a class discussion about the ICT used in
the lesson (7 minutes). Tell the class there are 4 groups
strongly agree, agree, disagree, strongly disagree (indicate
where the groups are in the room). Read out the first question
and ask the students to move to one of the four groups which
best reflects their answer to the question. Ask 1 person from
each group why they have chosen to stand in that group.
Repeat for all questions.

Discussion questions

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)
N/A
Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will these
be judged?)
1. Observations and anecdotal notes on how
students went using Powtoon to create a video. In a
year 8 classroom, most of the anecdotal notes would
be taken from the 1 or 2 groups who volunteered to
show their video to the class.
2. The Kahoot quiz is also a form of assessment.
Teacher will have a record of how each group went
in the quiz.
